Why can't BG just use Industry Ofgem Averages to go ahead and complete the quote?

From my understanding, and I might be wrong, most of BG's Telesales Tariff's don't even have an exit fee if they get it wrong.

OP, there are plenty of good independent suppliers in the North of England that will be a lot cheaper than British Gas. Pop in averages based on your house-size, and then use the TCR to compare the cheapest tariff.

a few posters have advised the OP to get on a cheaper tariff and switch away from British Gas.The advice to move supplier is nt always correct. Staying with BG could be a better option.
I`m with BG and if anyone can beat this electricity tariff I d be surprised . 7.9p /kwh 25p a day, and 2.2p kwh and 25 p for gas. It is a two year Sept 2017 fix as well !
The electricity tariff is the cheapest in the UK I think, so BG can do it if they really try. That tariff is dead now but BG can be the cheapest supplier as well as the most popular one.
  • I had a look at what BG are offering me and the lowest tariff is 3.92.

Apparently more competitive tariff's are available to those with a smart meter, but since it's not my property I don't know whether I can/should apply for one, I'll have to run that by the LL.

I'm going away on holiday in a few hours, so I shall thank those of you who replied with info on cheaper rates and have a sit down when I get home to see about getting a better rate. :)

The MSE 'collective' 12 month fixed deal with BG - which many of us joined in Feb/March this year - was excellent.
