Gas bill - Does this sound right?

....not enough readings to change to a cheaper tariff ! ?
Hopefully this is just a misunderstanding - It seems from your prices that you are on BG's 'Standard' tariff, this is the expensive one they put all new account holders on and you have the right to change to another BG tariff, and more importantly, to Switch away from BG to any other supplier you fancy.
At 4.3p a KWh, your gas is at least 25% more expensive than many other suppliers0 -
You are paying about twice as much per kwh for gas as I am, to give you an idea. Absolutely switch, both supplier and tariff and do not wait to get the boiler checked out if you smell gas. Also remember the Cheap Energy Club pays £15 per fuel to switch through it, so there's £30 in your pocket, for a start.
If you know a gas engineer, he surely must have told you the LL needs to provide a gas safety certificate and an EPC before you sign the tenancy agreement? If not, you know now. HTH.0 -
You have had the heating on in August? Or do you mean the boiler on for hot water?
What do you mean by going to the boiler to put it on? Isn't it controlled by a timer?
Some older boilers have pilot lights that are like 'flame throwers' and people have reported that they use over 10kWh a day.
Incidentally very few washing machines have a hot water feed these days - they and dishwashers are cold water feed.
We live up north so it's still pretty cold here. Plus we have no dryer so we rely on central heating to get our clothing dry, it rains too much to put it outside. It's a standing joke there is no summer in the north of Scotland.

Agreed, and I get the feeling the OP knew this already
Does this sound right? - I think we all know the answer to that one now.
So, all it remains now is for me to wish the OP the very best of luck!
Not sure what you mean by this post.
My main issue was with the price we are paying for gas when we were told to expect much lower.
Re: the rest, yes I know I am legally meant to receive a certificate, although I found this out *after* we moved, so I just asked for one now.0 -

That's, if you are paying half what I am that would be more on par with what we were told to expect for gas prices. Will be doing some searching around for a better tariff today. Thank you!0 -

This is what they told me when I called. I did think it sounded wrong, but I never had gas before, only electricity so we're navigating new territory so to speak.
Will definitely be looking at another supplier. Thanks for your help.0 -
There is, we had it last weekomidaverde wrote: »We live up north so it's still pretty cold here. Plus we have no dryer so we rely on central heating to get our clothing dry, it rains too much to put it outside. It's a standing joke there is no summer in the north of Scotland.

Hi again.
2.153 p/kwh for gas, 17.262 pence per day standing charge
10.185 p/kwh for electricity, 18.984 per day standing charge
... in case that's any use. This tariff is no longer available but the next cheapest is fairly close from my supplier for my area; it may be very different for your neck of the woods. I have been tempted to put the heating on a few times in the last few weeks and I am in the Midlands! Then, I am a soft southerner.
Best of luck, S x0 -
Why can't BG just use Industry Ofgem Averages to go ahead and complete the quote?
From my understanding, and I might be wrong, most of BG's Telesales Tariff's don't even have an exit fee if they get it wrong.
OP, there are plenty of good independent suppliers in the North of England that will be a lot cheaper than British Gas. Pop in averages based on your house-size, and then use the TCR to compare the cheapest tariff.Thank you all for helping me make my day by saving money!0
