  • So, that's about a year, roughly. The guideline timescale, before the move to regional divorce centres, was 16-20 weeks!
Have you got a Consent Order?

Our Decree Nisi took 5 months (with all documents being returned within a day or two of receipt) but we have been waiting since April for a decision on our Consent Order.
Trying to get any update is a nightmare, 9 times out of 10, after listening to a 2 minute recorded message, you just get "all operatives are busy, ring back later". If you do manage to get in the 'hold' queue (from '30th in the queue') it is an average of 40 minutes to get to speak to someone.

No wonder divorce is apparently one of the most stressful things someone can go through, as if the breakdown of the relationship isn't already difficult, even if you manage to stay on amicable terms with your ex the legal process makes it all SO much more stressful!

To be honest taking out all delays that you'd put down to us I think it would have taken 6/7 months. Can't fault them really every bit of it was simple, straightforward and I thought relatively quick. The timescale before was only 'a guideline' and I know certainly in our regional centre they do state there is a backlog at the moment.

I do understand that I was lucky with my situation etc and others aren't but I can only comment on my personal experience.
The last step was particularly quick with me sending the form for the absolute and receiving the absolute inside a week with the actual date given just the day after I had posted it.

No we don't have a consent order.
Hope yours is sorted soon for you.

A divorce is generally quite straight-forward and only takes as long as it takes for individuals to complete/respond to forms and then court delays.

It is the consent order (separation of financial matters) that takes a long time - mediating, negotiating, battling it out and then finalising it all in a legal document that means neither side can have a financial claim on the other. If there is property, pension or children involved, I wouldn't recommend that anybody skip this step.

I agree, obtaining a Consent Order is imperative.

We agreed everything amicably between us within a few weeks, had to wait 6 months for the Decree Nisi to be issued first, then it took a couple of months for the solicitor to draw up the documents and get them submitted to the court. That was 5 months ago and we still don't have a decision :( :wall:
Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the end

    Thanks :)
I guess yours was done at Southampton?
I've heard they're not as backlogged as some other centres.
We're waiting on Bury St Edmunds :(
