hi dont know if this is the right place to post so sorry if it isnt but..... Ive been seperated from my husband a year now. Ive looked into getting the divorce sorted through a solicitor and they wanted 500 quid up front just to start it. being a single mam now who only works part time i cant sfford that. i have heard you can do it online now for considerably a lot less so just wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. should be quite simple divorce as only one child involved but no property or belongings involved.

You can download the forms free from here https://www.gov.uk/divorce/file-for-divorce lots of advice online how to complete them. Have a look on Wikivorce.
There is a court fee but if you are on a low income you may be eligible for a reduction. Details from same link.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -

Don't expect it to be a quick process. Instead of being dealt with at local courts the work is now dealt with by regional Divorce Centres.
It seems most have long backlogs.Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0 -
Why don't you check to see if your local CAB can refer you to a family/divorce lawyer for a free advice session. Just so you know you're taking the correct action.0

You can do most of it yourself - I did. That way it only costs court fees, which might be eligible for a reduction. You will also need a financial settlement and that is best via a lawyer, even if only to put something you have both agreed into legalese.

Are you still in contact with your husband and is he in agreement with your plans for a divorce?0

I did my divorce myself through that government website.
Very simple and relatively quick as far as these things can be...my husband only left me at the very end of March last year,I didn't start divorce proceedings for a good 4/5 months and at a few points didn't post stuff as soon as it could have been(talking a 2 month delay at one point) and I got my absolute last week.
Ours was also simple with no property /belongings/money etc and we have 2 children but those arrangements amicable between us so divorce was straightforward.0 -

Really?
I would imagine that OP is using 'lol' either as a habitual closer, or in self deprecating acknowledgement that she will be pleased to get to the end of a process that will be challenging for her.
I would highly doubt she is laughing because her marriage is over, wouldn't you? Really?

So, that's about a year, roughly. The guideline timescale, before the move to regional divorce centres, was 16-20 weeks!
Have you got a Consent Order?
Our Decree Nisi took 5 months (with all documents being returned within a day or two of receipt) but we have been waiting since April for a decision on our Consent Order.
Trying to get any update is a nightmare, 9 times out of 10, after listening to a 2 minute recorded message, you just get "all operatives are busy, ring back later". If you do manage to get in the 'hold' queue (from '30th in the queue') it is an average of 40 minutes to get to speak to someone.
No wonder divorce is apparently one of the most stressful things someone can go through, as if the breakdown of the relationship isn't already difficult, even if you manage to stay on amicable terms with your ex the legal process makes it all SO much more stressful!Everything will be alright in the end so, if it’s not yet alright, it means it’s not yet the endQuidquid Latine dictum sit altum videtur0
