Denied boarding on flight !

Options
Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone from you have the same situation. On Sunday I broke my leg and in the hospital they fitted me a plaster around midnight. I had early flight 6 am on Monday to home. As soon as I get to the airport I have reported to the Information point that I need special assistance due to my broken leg. We have been informed that someone will approach us 2 hours before flight and we need to wait. We have been waiting as assistant came with wheelchair and we visited to Wizz Air desk (2 hours before flight). They said to me that they can't get me on the plane as my plaster was fitted less than 72 hours. I haven't been offered any alternative like change my fligh for another date. Do I have any chance to claim my money back ? As an accident was just before my flight... Any thoughts ? I will be much more appreicated !

  • You would need to speak to your insurer, they'll arrange suitable travel home. You should also get a medical certificate stating you are fit to fly.

If you do not have cover, you're on your own I'm afraid.

different airlines have different rules but unlikely any airline would allow you to travel with a cast fitted 6 hours prior

you may need to have the cast split before you can fly - best to check with the airline direct

Last year I looked into this because my wrist was in plaster. I was told by Easyjet that it was fine to fly as long as the plaster had been applied more than 48 hours earlier. When I spoke to doctors at the hospital, they said that it wasn't safe to travel in plaster and that it needed to be split. In the end, my plaster had been removed by the date of travel.

As per one of the early responders this is what travel insurance is for - you did have it didn't you ?

I'm a regular on flights from a winter sports area back to UK and this happens on many of the flights I'm on where passenger has injured themselves on last days of holiday, had a cast applied and then get's denied boarding. Best I saw was a guy remove his own cast on an arm broken less than 24hrs previously then approach different boarding agent and be let on.
