32500 & £317 would get you LGW to MCO return for one person off peak. Looked at random days in may. Not possibly the best use of miles but is an option.

Second option is normal flights are around £1k for 2 people. 34000 miles would get £200 off the cost of that flight. Again not brilliant but certainly an option to use if you are going to lose them.

Since the overhaul of their system (when it changed from Airmiles to Avios) the deal isn't as good but I've still used them for short haul. Prior to the change I had a couple of returns to Tel Aviv, one to Tokyo and umpteen European flights.

I've had Qatar bus class to India, BA business to Malaga twice. Economy to London paris, palma Warsaw and Berlin. So yes u can use Avios for flights.
I use baredemptionfinder.com to narrow down routes with availability

    This gives
21st July 2016: BA Redemption Finder is no longer working, as the Avios data source which backs it is no longer being updated. Sorry!

    any alternative?

Reward Flight savers are the way to go for BA Executive Club. We have had many flights to Europe using these. I believe you have to make sure that you credit at least one avios per year into BAEC to access these

In answer to the original question i have used them once for return tickets to la with the ex, and hotels in vegas on the same trip and return tickets to amsterdam with the current other half and currently planing our big trip to the far east next year using our avios.

Just because there are seats available on a flight with ba it doesnt mean there are avios seats available
Live each day like its your last because one day you'll be right

Have had success each year since I joined the BA Avios scheme, now 3 years. Usually use them to upgrade, eg. Jo'burg, Orlando, Caribbean, or for free flights in conjunction with a free companion voucher through Amex.

But I always book the second the Avios seats are released, usually 355 days in advance.

Lots of tips on FlyerTalk BAEC forum.

Yes, log onto BA or avios and do some dummy bookings

On ba site click on executive club, then click spend avios and the under the reward flights sale select book a reward flight.

We have three return flights to Crete for first 2 weeks next August.

Booked the outbound as soon as they became available & then the inbound 12 days later.

32500 Avios will get you two return flights to Malaga
Private Parking Tickets - Make sure you put your Subject Access Request in after 25th May 2018 - It's free & ask for everything, don't forget the DVLA :D
  • We've managed to use avios for

    2 x Mauritius (club)
1 x cancun (club and wtp)
    1 x nyc return from cancun (first/club)
    Nice
    Granada (Spain)
    Crete
    Berlin
    Prague
    Paris
Coming up Kuala Lumpur at Easter (club)
All of our long haul, apart from one of the Mauritius trips were in school holidays, as were nice, Granada and Crete. They've been fantastic for us. Unfortunately they're now pretty much gone. We might manage one more Europe flight for the family, but then they'll be done. At least we can finish on a high with our Far East trip!!!!
  • Thank you to everybody who commented here. Firstly, I wasn't expecting top flights to Orlando for 32,000 Avios. I was planning on using them as part payment. Secondly, it is clear that loads of you have had success with the system and that persistence & patience is required. The one thing you have fought me here is to look at booking as far in advance as possible.
    Thanks everybody!
