I was specifically talking about the islands that traditionally make up most people's idea of the Caribbean.
Mexico is a vast country with a population of 122 million and an entirely different subject altogether.
But you can always rely on one numpty to start a row where one isn't needed.
Still nonsense...and calling someone a numpty isn't helping your case. It's your limited opinion, not fact.
We always travel independently and have a great time. Your post is incredibly naive and insulting.0 -
call me naïve, but for me a Caribbean cruise does it for me every time. We're P&O through and through. We go for the sunshine, the relaxation, the excursions , the beaches and the ships themselves0

Thanks very much for the replies people. Sorry a bit of a spat seems to have broken out.....In my op I did mention the main islands so I can understand the response regarding only them. I'd love to one day explore central & South America but this time we can only be away for around 17 days max so that trip/s will need to wait till another time.
I'm going to do some more research as hubby likes the cruise idea. It's something we've said for years we'd like to try but I am unsure about the idea of being "cooped up" though I know that's obviously not the case when you dock somewhere.
Voyager - my sister lives in KL so we usually travel there every year. A few days there then we go off on a jaunt somewhere. One of our favourite places so far is Borneo and we will definitely return.
Thanks again for the inspiration.0 -

I understand the 'cooped up' apprehension.
I certainly prefer the feeling of doing what I like when I like. We rent cars on the islands and try to find our own special places.
All inclusive and being coop-ed up on a ship isn't my cup of tea either.0 -

I'm glad I'm not alone in feeling somewhat claustrophobic onboard a ship, no matter how huge it may be. Also sometimes, especially on holiday we can be quite anti-social. I like a short chat or interaction but soon I want tranquility to read or enjoy my surroundings. I fear on a ship you just can't escape hordes of people! My idea of hell. Maybe that's why we stick to asia, the beaches are usually deserted, no masses of loungers and not an inch between them.
Normally wherever we go in Asia we take a taxi, sometimes for a day or 2 and explore. Driving can be pretty hazardous so that's our preference.
All inc isn't my choice usually. It's ok for a week if it's a good hotel & restaurant but I love wandering, eating wherever I like to. I like to feel I'm helping small local business too. Nothing more enjoyable than a bowl of Pho while squeezed into a child's plastic chair

Sounds like many places in the Caribbean. People miss so much on packaged holidays.
We book accommodation on the beach, rent a car and go from there. Looking for new nooks and crannies when we feel like it.
One of the worst things about the asian region is the rampant abuse of nature in order to make a quick buck.
I definitely prefer the Caribbean in many ways. For instance, driving in Barbados; people constantly stop to let you out of a driveway and are genuinely polite. In Asia, they are constantly jostling for position. You really need to stay focussed.
On the other hand, SE Asia can be relatively inexpensive.
My partner is really over SE Asia, now much preferring the USA and the Caribbean. We had a surprisingly pleasant time in Perth, with both beaches, nature and the wildlife, including whale watching. We might take another look at Vietnam and Myanmar, next year.0 -

If you get your timing right, you can get most of that on Tenerife, without jet lag and changing planes.
They have kangaroos in Tenerife? Super. Wild dolphins swimming around you?
Let me know when to go. Then I'll look further. But perhaps keep it for another thread. We don't want you to spoil this thread with your wild claims.0 -
Cruising used to be on my never ever to do list. 23 years in the Royal Navy, and the thought of a cruise was the last thing on my bucket list.
Then 5 years ago I had a weak moment, and booked a two week Cruise/Stay with Thmsons in the Eastern Med, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Had 3 adult only cruises with Thomson since, including a repositioning across the Atlantic, and 5 islands in the Eastern Caribbean, which if nothing else gives you a glimpse of the region.0 -

I'm not sure why you're trying to be deliberately obnoxious but you're making a bit of a fool of yourself while doing it.
" Over one third of all whale and dolphin species either reside in or pass through Canarian waters. Visitors are almost guaranteed to see pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins on their whale watching trips "
