It's terrible that people would recommend on companies that are so unprofessional. But with this site & other social media, at least the consumer can try to make an informed decision.
Naming these unethical companies is surely the way forward?.
In a perfect world your comments are worthy and I support them. In reality the world does not operate like this. Consider the following:
The neighbours have zero interest in naming these companies and from then on one has to be cautious, and savvy.
Whilst I know the work, and products, are dreadful who am I to name the companies? The reality is I have no contract with them, and they cannot put right the defects I name because the homeowners are happy to live with them.
The companies are almost all (there are occasional exceptions) hell bent on bodging, or hell bent on total indifference to their work. This may not be intentional - they are unskilled, or at best semi skilled, and many will have received no formal, or accredited training.
Consequently if I name some this implies those unnamed are better when they are really all the same.
The concept of social media, or adverse publicity, to name and shame is flawed and it is sad that, as a society, we have allowed ourselves to regard this as a protection layer.0 -
My folks used local last time (about 10 yrs back) within a year company was bust & the windows started filling up with water etc. My dad didn't want to go local after that. So decided for a national one, let's see how we go!
Sad to say your Dad has fallen at the first hurdle. Savvy consumers do not allow this to happen. There is not a fool proof answer but insurance backed guarantees are one way forward, as is payment on a credit card. Even if these are inapplicable one has to remember the fitting companies are not the ones offering much of the guarantees - these come from the manufacturer of the profile, the manufacturer of the sealed units, the manufacturer of the window, and the manufacturers of the ironmongery. Hence these are all available to help, but with a proviso. The consumer must have all these guarantees to hand which of course means knowing who they are. How many consumers check on this? How many consumers care about this? I suggest the answer is less than 5%.
You are singing the praises of SafeStyle. What happens if they cease trading - which they could quite easily. You have the insurance backed guarantee and the payment by credit card so top marks to you. However, can you answer the questions I have raised? Do you have all your ducks in line for the next ten years?0 -
I'm singing no one's praises. I'm feeding back on this site as I've always done for the last decade.
People can take what I've posted however they want.
I have nothing to gain or am not afflicted with Safestyle.
Not sure what else you want me to answer. Sorry if you've seen deceptions going around you. Unfortunately, this is the world we live in, social media to some extent may help to route some of the cowboys out.No one said it was gonna be easy!0 -
If we were all savvy we wouldn't need site's like this surely?.
If they fail, they fail. No institute is safe look at BHS.
Deal with problems as they happen, this was taught to me as a pacing tool for chronic illness.
Otherwise I'd never get out of bed, worrying about everything! No one said it was gonna be easy!0
