Thanks FunTime - OK so if I get the "with excess" option, I also need to get independent excess insurance to avoid having to buy the expensive insurance the car hire company will offer me at the airport?

If i go with the "with excess" option I will still get charged around 1000 EUR security deposit?

Would I still get charged that seucrity deposit if I bought the insurance at the airport?

    thanks

Yes, I confirmed that in the previous reply.

No, but it will be expensive.

Don't worry. Only teasing. Ask away.
Better you do that than to make a mistake.

Hi FunTime - I just checked the Thrifty site directly (rather than via Auto Europe) and it is coming out a few pounds cheaper. However I note their "with excess" option includes something called "super cover (excess waiver)". what is that ? is that the same as excess insurance? in which case would I still have to purchase separate excess insurance as well?

What's the website's address? Will have a look myself.

    Don't forget Quidco at 10%: http://www.quidco.com/thrifty-car-rental/

Super Cover is the option that removes the need for your to have the large amount ringfenced on your credit card.
But at £94.30, it's not a particularly attractive option.
So, unless you don't have a CC or can't afford to have that amount ringfenced on your card, go for the standalone excess car hire insurance.

When handing the car in, don't accept being fobbed off without them checking the car and handing you a final invoice.

Also, you can put 19.45 as the time you will hand the car back. It doesn't matter if you take it back earlier.

    Just hire from Vanrell

    Simple, friendly, no rip offs
Change is inevitable, except from a vending machine.
