Wayne, don't worry it was me they were having a pop at.
How are you getting on at getting the difference back? Many shops offer a price promise like Amazon where if it goes down within 30 days you get the difference. I think Argos should refund the difference and if they wouldn't, I personally would go back and say it was broken.

    Fraud.

    Shoot me now!!:rotfl:
  • Having been on the receiving end of Argos and their pricing example: travelled a total of 38 miles having ordered online and reserved to be told when i arrived at the shop that the price had gone up by £35 (It had in fact doubled in price) yes before anyone starts its in the terms and conditions but when it happens to you, the way you view the company changes, good luck to anyone who gets one over on them.
  • And in reply to the other comment about whether the sales assistant would know about the price drop or gain.My wife works for a much larger shopping chain than Argos and every day they are given a sheet telling them of upcoming promotions.

I can assure you that yes there are price cuts going on all the time but there are a lot of them aswell and most of the Argos staff have nor the time or the inclanation to check every price drop or increase or indeed memorise them so they would probably would not have known, or they would not have had the chance to look at the forthcoming promotion. I work in the display section and half the time i dont look naughty i know
I can understand your frustration about the price drop but sometimes honesty is the best policy and i do hope that you get the difference back just ask to speak to the manager and explain your situation and hopefully he can refund and then resell you the exact same one.

Good Luck hope you get it, as like you say even if money wasnt tight does not mean to say that we like throwing it away
  • This is the first thing I told my wife, we paid the price and at the time were happy with the purchase but wouldn't you feel just a little bit cheated to see it at almost 1/2 price just 48 hours later?

With regards to having no self respect, I have never once said I was going to pretend it was broken when I took it back and I resent the insinuation that I did.
I didn't insinuate anything about you. The comment was very clearly aimed at those giving bad advice that you should lie to Argos and defraud them of money.
I only came on here to see if we had a leg to stand on legally and to find out what our statutory rights are, I didn't really want to start an arguement.

    Maybe I was mistaken.

    Wayne
No, it was a fair enough question to ask. You don't have any statutory rights in these circumstances.

You also asked what the ethical viewpoint was: and the answer is the same. You agreed to buy at the price quoted. They supplied the item at the price quoted. End of story.

    Move on.

Not quite the end of story you could always take it back say it was broken get your money back and buy it £100 cheaper - thats what I'd do and if the first shop said no I'd probably do a tour of Argos until I found a shop that would.
  • Eh?

I've explained why that would be legally and morally wrong.

Money was tight so spent £280 on a ipod as a gift?

and damn Argos - Just keep going around to all your high street stores and tell tham that a national chains arn't allow to ever reduce anything that i've just bought from them, ever. Especially when a new model of a product is announced that week. Shame on them trying to clear out the old models by reducing them.

Oh come on, some posters on here have been pretty unhelpful to the OP and this is a moneysaving site. I would be miffed too!

Have none of you ever bought an item again if it has gone down in price within 28 days, then simply returned the first one (or the second one, who knows the difference?;) ;) ) with the higher price, still valid, receipt?

Not sure if the OP can do this with an Ipod, depends on Argos returns policy.
