ibathuk 10 year warranty is not what is seems

Hi there

I just wanted to check on the following

I purchased a shower mixer from Ibathuk on ebay almost 3 years ago with a 10 year warranty.

The part which mixes the water has stopped working properly so its very difficult to control the temperature of the water.
I contacted the company believing that as it is sold with a 10 year warranty that I would be entitled to request a replacement part. I was informed that this part only comes with a 1 year warranty so tough luck.
I wanted to know whether they are right in their actions? as far as I can see there is nowhere on their listings that says that the 10 year warranty does not cover the cartridge as they call it.

Many thanks

What do your warranty documents say?

    Hi Marlie

Unfortunately I dont appear to have any documents, I only have the order number and transaction that I was sent by email when I made the purchase.

It is possible that I was sent some other documents, I cannot say for sure, but quite often a lot of purchases I make through ebay from similar sellers dont really come with much more that a plain box

    Thanks

A manufacturer can set whatever terms they wish to cover their warranty. I suggest you have a search on their website or email a request for their warranty T&Cs.

Edit: It seems this company doesn't have the best of reputations, I think you're going to struggle with this one. Assuming you purchased it from their ebay store so it may be worth contacting ebay about them to tell them that their 10yr guarantee is worthless.

    Hi Neil

Thanks for the reply, I will try to look through their website to see if I can find this information out although I have just been reading up on trustpilot and the reviews of this company are awful. I get a feeling whatever their policy regarding the warranty Im not going to get any joy

Bit of a cop out really, the only thing that can ever really go wrong with a mixer shower is the cartridge because all a mixer shower is, is a cartridge in a fancy casing.

Hi I have found the guarantee and it says the following:
under this guarantee will at its option, repair or replace free of charge any product (or replacement part) found to be defective. The guarantee does not extend to any consequential loss or damage. After repair or replacement the relevant guarantee period will be calculated from the original date of purchase.

    The relevant guarantee periods are:

Ten years on shower finish products

It goes on to say about how to make a claim under the guarentee etc..

Does the wording ''shower finish products'' mean only the external finished parts? or do you think it covers all the parts (or replacement parts as it says in the earlier section)

    Thanks again for any help.

    hi Bris

Thats exactly what I told them that the cartridge is the only part that can go wrong but they were adamant that the cartridge is only guaranteed for 1 year.

    Just saw your edit Neil,

I will try contacting ebay to see whether they are able to offer any help. Not for the first time I find myself questioning my choices in trying to save some money purchasing through the internet only to find all is not what I would expect it to be where a warranty is concerned

Thanks again for all your replies

This has nothing to do with ebay.

    Hi Hintza

I know this but they still advertising same and similar products that have a 10 year warranty on ebay and elsewhere. It mentions nothing on the listing that I can find, that says what is excluded from this warranty. I just think it is really misleading and wanted to let ebay know that
