I'll bow to your (unsubstantiated) superior knowledge.
Cheers
Its just common sense though. If the OP had bet 300 times on the site each time spending £10 on a bet and lost everytime they would have lost £3k.
if on the 301st bet the won £25 and tried to withdraw it do you honestly believe that the bookies would refund £3000 to the OP?
This appears to be what you are claiming.....0 -

I have already said I agree with you , would be interesting to see wealdrom response as usually his knowledge is good on consumer issues0 -

Gambling is slightly different to the consumer rights wealdrom is an expert in. They're very good on things to do with returning electrical goods within six years or your rights if you buy goods from a distance but I've always got the impression they don't know much about the gambling industry.
It's fair enough as it is a niche market.0 -
But if you had lost a big bet, then you wouldn't have anything to attempt to withdraw.
You only came across an issue when you tried to take money out of the account as you had won.
If I win I don't get my winnings, just my stake. If I lose I'm getting nothing. So I'm essentially betting at ~4/1 odds just to receive my money back.0 -
But you got your stake refunded when you WON, so what benefit do you get if they also do that when you LOSE? You don't gain a penny in either scenario!
Jesus Christ, well errr, this was certainly a weird and long post.
Anyway you could abuse the system so that you place a bet on high odds knowing that if you lose you can just get your money back when you try to withdraw money. Essentially earning free bets for as much as you like.
Ergo I place a £1000 bet at odds of 9/1. If it wins I'm £9000 up and laughing; It loses however and I'm £1000 down. So I deposit and place a bet of £10 on odds of 1/10 returning £11. I try to withdraw the £11 but am hit with a verification check which I fail by stuttering when asked when I made my first transaction. Betfair would not return my £1000 losing bet.On the subject of an auto-fill.... you would be the absolute exception if this wasn't the case, but your DOB would be filled in when you type in your first name (or maybe surname - can't see you filling in the address section FIRST)!! The way that Betfair's registration box is set up means that you can't type in one digit into the text box and auto-fill the whole lot; the data range is too wide!
I don't know if the issue was with auto-fill, I'm just assuming it was as I cannot think of any other reason why my brother's DOB would have been entered instead of mine. My best guess would be that after typing the first letter of my second name that I was offered a suggestion, which I clicked and it then filled out other connected information. It was Friday night and I was fairly drunk. You couldn't answer when you made the transaction? Sod me lad but what did you bet on?! You just take that and think back to that day; were you betting on the bog, doing a cheeky one in work? What is it? You don't just *forget* when you made a deposit when you know what market you bet on and what prompted it! Were you sitting in your y-fronts at 3am betting drunk? Or at the pub watching the Newcastle United game?
I didn't know when the transaction was made because this process of proving my identification had already taken over a week due to Betfair failing to call when we'd arranged on 2 occasions. When they finally did call I was busy with work. I didn't know the answer and panicked a little and my mind went blank. I am only human after all, I get flustered and make mistakes sometimes. I could have checked my bank history to see the transaction, which I explained, but he ended the conversation.
I've already explained this though so I can only apologise that I'm not as cool, calm and collected as you at all times, 'lad'.And what prompted you to open it a week earlier? Presumably you'd open a betting account to place a bet, not let it sit inactive for over a week! Also strikes me as odd. Not surprised you got a fraud check request. Almost seems like you were testing the waters to see if it would be closed down as being potentially fraudulent.
Sorry, I have to interject here, exclamation marks don't get your point across any better!!! YOU CAN ALSO TALK WITHOUT TRYING TO BE A COCKY KNOW IT ALL TOO!!!
Anyway, I opened the account as my brother told me about an enhanced odds bet on Man Utd (he lives in a different address - it's within their TOS and I'm not bonus abusing), but ended up forgetting about it - again, it was Friday night. I logged in and placed a bet a week later because I wanted to, I'll make sure to send you a PM next time to get your permission first though, aye?Moral of the story:
1. Don't gamble
Soz mother.2. If you do, provide correct information (unless you're running a scam, like bonus whoring, in which case do it legit - the forum has a section!).
Probably the most helpful thing you've said all post. I'll make sure to double check everything next time.
I'm not sure what you get out of trying to 'prove me wrong' or whatever it is you're doing. To put your mind at ease though I've been in control of my account the entire time, nobody else, there's nothing nefarious went on, just an incorrect DOB entered by mistake. And seriously, what was the point of all this? How is this kind of nonsense in any way of use to the forum? It wasn't clever or amusing and has achieved absolutely nothing.
Sorry to the rest of the forum for reacting anyway, that just really irritated me.0 -

Full verification is not required until a withdrawal is made, Betfair did due diligence when you requested a withdrawal, and found you had submitted incorrect information. They allowed you the opportunity to prove that you are operating your own account - fraudulent account usage is a big problem for bookies - and you couldn't. You basically admitted that you'd need to look when the transaction was made - and they asked that question specifically to see if you knew, if the transaction was done by you. If you'd placed the bet, it's fair to say that you'd have had an idea what event you bet on, and therefore what day you placed it. If you didn't place the bet, you'd have to look it up.
I fully accept this is my mistake, I just think Betfair - or at least the security checker on the phone - had acted incredibly rashly.
EDIT: Just attaching this here as to not make a fourth post in a row.
Thanks to those who are understanding and who have actually tried to help or have offered some insight into how gambling sites operate, whether you are sceptical or not. I don't expect everyone or anyone to believe me (I could have made it all up wooooo), I just expected the question to be answered. So thanks again to those who have tried.0
