What happens regarding vehicle tax when the registered keeper/owner of a vehicle dies and the vehicle is inherited?
As "the tax is no longer transferable", does that mean that technically the vehicle is no longer taxed when the owner dies and that it should not be used by anyone else who is an insured driver of the vehicle?

when my dad passed away, I was a named driver on the policy.
The ins company said I could still drive the car under the terms of the policy (I didnt)
I inherited the car - when we did was notify the Dvla of his death (that was done under the tell 1 for all - when registered the death. As for the car, I did a transfer into my name, as for the tax side - the tax dies with the person, so I put the car off the road (sorn form - post office guy helped me), as I had sent paperwork off the name change, I insured the car as me as owner, then started a new tax yr.
If there is any money owing from the tax - this will be refunded xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
The tax gets cancelled when they change the registered keeper so you would end up paying the tax twice for one month.
The only way to avoid paying tax twice is to leave the change till the last day of the month. Sorn the car online late in the evening then first thing in the morning on the 1st day of the month tax it with the new keeper slip reference. You just need to keep it off road over night. Worked for us when my fil died.0 -
When the RK dies, the executor takes on their responsibilities until such time as the RK is changed to be the beneficiary or buyer.
At that point, the executor returns the V5C as normal, and receives the refund warrant - which they pay in to the bank as with any other incoming payments. The new RK is responsible for taxing the car immediately, as they would be with any other car they become RK of.0
