Family Building Society

I've just seen MSE's latest update on ISAs and mention of FBS - I'd never heard of them before. Has anyone saved with them (online)? Would like to hear how they shape up.

    What rate are they offering?
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

"it is part of National Counties building society, based in Epsom, Surrey, though it operates as a separate division with its own products. And there are no branches for people to visit – the Family is a phone- and internet-only business" - The Guardian

The ISA pays 1.22% and is at the top of Martin Lewis's list; also is covered by the £75,000 assurance. The next best payer is Coventry paying 1.10%. I suppose, as it has ML's recommendation, it should be OK but would still like to hear if anyone has used them.

Sounds suspicious to me even though ML recommends it and it has the £75,000 assured sum.

In what way does it sound 'suspicious'?
  • I have been a member since 11/2014. They are, as already stated, a subsidiary of National Counties BS and are fully £75,000 guaranteed.

Presumably you've already filled all the accounts paying higher interest?

Is there more than one top account paying high interest? Unlike some here who have 5 or more accounts running at any one time I choose only one that fulfils all the criteria - I don't want to lose money!

Thanks for your info but I'd never even heard of National Counties! I guess there must be many more smaller BSs that I haven't heard of.

We've been perfectly happy with National Counties. My wife has some money there at the moment, and has had for many years.
Free the dunston one next time too.
