Its not the RAM,
Trust me, this is a power issue. Otherwise the machine WOULD turn on and do SOMETHING .
Even if that something was to make the little orange light turn solid green.
As this is not happening then it is either the power brick, or the motherboard.
You can buy a generic power brick from your local computer shop0 -

Power brick.. that's just the plug to the mains isn't it? I will try and get another, if I find one that works for this model. Thought £6 was a bit of a deal, this is making me try and use my noggin hehe:rotfl:0 -
It had no harddisk for sure, I had a friend who sent me one but it does the same error with that in (same light flashing, no beeps).
I will google! Ta for info... RAM... heard of it but no idea about it
I know this is probably a silly question. But does the HDD your friend sent you actually have an operating system on?0 -

I believe so... maybe... I cannot guarantee. He said it was part of another laptop that wasn't working, so this was taken out as "spares", and told me that IF there were any files on it to delete them all - hence assumption it does. But don't know to be honest!
But that all said, I don't know what was wrong with the laptop it was taken from, so I guess I cannot be sure it works... now I'm thinking about it. It might be it doesn't work and that caused the problem with the previous laptop.... but I'm assuming it does work, he is a trusted friend.... unfortunately one that lives in Scotland so I can't get him to do all this for me:rotfl:0 -

That doesn't matter, yet. We haven't even got anything on the screen yet.
My secondary point about the RAM is, if there isn't any, you would have to start spending money on something that might be beyond economical repair, so it wouldn't be worth it. What's the model number of this laptop so we know what we're dealing with? RAM is often easily accessed via a panel on the bottom with 1 screw to remove...0 -
It's a HP Compaq nx6310, are any other details required? I see "s/n" (serial number I presume) and "p/n" (ummm, ....number)
There's loads of other numbers, but they say "modem model..." and something I assume is "Hp series" (It's on the HP sticker...says "series" HSTNN-I05C (assuming it's I not 1) etc.)
I might look into the RAM to see if I can get a replacement (think there was one there already, vague memory, but dunno if broken):rotfl:0 -
ask a grown up to put it in the bin for youDon't you dare criticise what you cannot understand0

So it's this then: (hint - I copy and pasted 'HP Compaq nx6310' into Google)
http://www.cnet.com/products/hp-compaq-business-notebook-nx6310-15-celeron-m-410-win-xp-home-256-mb-ram-40-gb-hdd-series/specs/
Which came with 256mb of RAM, a Celeron M and a 40GB HDD.
The best it can do is 2GB of RAM - DDR2.
Unless you know what you're doing, and have a use for an underpowered laptop, I'd say it's not worth your investment in time. It won't keep up with the modern internet. A wee hobby to experiment on, play old games, maybe.0
