Leaving Staywarm (Powergen)

Hi Advice please on the following would help me.

I have a 2 bedroom detatched bungalow, lounge and kitchen dinner. I have had walls filled with insullation, i have had my loft fitted with new loft installation. and I have had a new combi boiler (Worcester)

I am with Staywarm and pay £78.81 per month, friends who I work with dont think this is such a good deal, but I like to be able to keep the central heating on in the winter without having to clock watch.

I have had a quote from Swalec of approx £60 per month. which over the year is a good saving

What do you think of Staywarms price, I have been with them for 5 years and it has gone up quite alot in the past couple of years.

Thanks Annie

I know of two couples who love the benefit of staywarm. They have their heating as high or as fequent as they like and never have to worry about an unexpected bill.

Is the quote from swalec £60 a month and meter readings or the same as staywarm?

So although they say £60 a month it could eventually be more than that.
You hear on this site alot of people getting into trouble by having a direct debit set too low and they find themselves in arrears. It would depend if you wanted to take that risk. Would you also be constently worrying about the cost, something you don't have to now.

Personally if it was me I would stay on staywarm. For me it would give me peace of mind if the weather suddenly turned cold and I wanted the heating on all day and night. I could just turn it on and up.

Have you concidered phoning Staywarm and query the amount of your direct debit?

    Just a thought too.

Prices have come down since last year. As your price is set for 12 months you won't benefit from that decrease yet. Worth giving them a ring I think.

  • Hi I have done a search for comparisons on Staywarm, and everyone comes up cheaper, I am paying over £900 a year which does seem alot to keep warm. I will give then a ring to see what they say. I dont think the new prices are out until Jan.

  • Hi I will phone after the weekend and let you know, but i dont suppose the call centre (hopefully not India) will know anything about reductions Annie
  • Hi I have just been on there website for their phone number, and it is saying no increases until 01/01/2009 I suppose that changes things for me

There probably wont be any reductions this Jan, so what do the think of this situation know Annie
  • Hi I have just phoned Staywarm and the gentlemen worked out my usage and did me a quote to change to Powergem and I would be paying £88.50 per month.

The fixed price until 2009 is not for Staywarm, but he did say there might be a reduction.

So I think the decision is to stay with Staywarm.

Thank you Rikki for your interest in my problem

I'm pleased you manage to sort things out.

It looks like instead of reducing the price Staywarm are leaving it fixed until 2009.

I think you are right to stay with Staywarm. You know how much you are paying and your not going to unexpectedly end up owing money.

A problem shared is a problem halved. I'm glad you felt I helped in some small way.
