EE not owning phone for first 6 months?

Options
Hi,
I'm looking for some help. I purchased a mobile phone on contract with EE 2 months ago. When I purchased it the lady in the EE shop said something about they still own the handset for 6 months and if anything happens to it, it is covered.
Well my phone has been stollen, so I contacted them and neither the shop or helpline know what she was talking about??
Below is an extract from the plan from the website stating I don't own the phone until 6 months into the contract. So basically does anyone know if I have any right to expect a free replacement handset?

Thanks for your help.

Pay Monthly Mobile Plans: 24 month plan. Monthly charges assume online billing & Direct Debit payment. The monthly price shown will be adjusted every year in your March bill by the January Retail Price Index figure announced in February that year. You own device 6 months from plan start date. WiFi Calling: WiFi connection required. EE accepts no responsibility for the quality, availability or coverage of WiFi networks and calls made or received over them. All calls or texts charged as per your EE price plan, see ee.co.uk/priceguides.

Have a look at your bill you may well find you are paying for phone insurance.

As far as the 6 months is concerned, you are required to look after the phone during this time.

Put this slightly different. You lost a phone belonging to someone else, let's say your boss or friend. Would you go to your boss or friend and tell them they now owe you another phone?

If you aren't insured, you'll need to buy a cheap / second hand phone to continue using your contract. Ask EE to replace the sim (there could be a charge for the replacement) and be more careful in the future.
