O/S Daily Thread Tuesday 6th September

Options
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

  • Morning all

Yesterday was manic, I worked 2 hours extra and still got through less than half my work, lets hope I can get on top of it today.

My L&M and I have a cuppa, the fish have been fed, the washing is on the line that is undercover.
I need to make my salad and empty the DW before I set off.

From today I'm collecting littlest DGD after work for the next 2 weeks, at least DGS was up dressed and ready yesterday morning when I got there.

    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning everyone

HH - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs for those that need/want them x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now up and getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly so he can get ready for college.

Now light but cloudy and overcast but not cold. The washing I put on the line yesterday was on the line all day and some of heavier items didn't get completely dry, will be putting another load in shortly that will then go on the line tomorrow morning, didn't get a load done overnight last night, so now dirty wash basket has at least one load in it.

Dinner last night was roast chicken, stuffing, new potatoes, carrots, broc, HG green beans, peas and gravy, cake for dessert. Tonight hairdresser is coming so it'll be a later dinner, but going to be a full english as once she's cut my hair I can get on with the food, sausages/hash browns etc can be cooked in the oven, not very healthy but I bought ingredients to make full english over the weekend that we then didn't have.

Work yesterday as expected was rather manic, it was busy most of the day, and only eased off at 3.30pm, then we still had several people banging on the door after 4pm once we were closed. I suspect today won't be much different as the school's are all going back this week, some yesterday, some today, some tomorrow and some on Thursday.

Didn't feel anywhere near as low last night, as I'd been busy and brain occupied all day, don't feel to bad today either, so will just keep busy as for me I find this really makes a massive difference to my mood.

DS2 had a full day at college yesterday and seemed to settle in well and enjoy what he did, although this week it sounds like it's all paperwork, introductions etc.

    Keep safe and well x

Wet and windy here but oh so warm! Yesterday was a day of rain until about 5pm when the sun came out for a while. Washed the windows at the front of the house along with the door, it's that time of year when all the spiders and jennys get caught along the window frames.

Washing in but that can go on the airer today, no packed lunch to make as I had some lovely fish and a salad from the dinner hall, will have my salad today.

Dentist's check up was fine, going back to see the hygienist next Monday. Meeting some friends for an early dinner later today, will be good to catch up with everyone.

Thankfully my work colleague was back from her sickness yesterday so the workload was a bit easier, could still do without the parents who can't see how badly behaved their children are!

Enjoy your day, csarina I hope your bathroom is sorted soon. Take care. XX

    Morning everyone.

My early night yesterday was foiled, just as i was enjoying watching a neighbour trundled up to show off his new bit of 'big kit' for milling trees. It gave me an excuse to have a wee drink, couldn't let him have a dram on his own!

Today is student induction day. The morning is about centre induction and the afternoon is course induction. Now I haven't done what is called 'a full days work' in 17 months so I'm keen to see if both my stamina and patience last out.

Now where's Speky? I hope his new job is as good as he wanted it to be.

I hope everyone has a good Tuesday.
  • i wondered too
    are you ok speky??

  • Good Morning all, well I know its morning as its light ,but its very cloudy at the moment .Forecast is for 24c today though and its definitely no cold at all.DGS Jack starts at 6th form this morning and larking around with his pal yesterday he hurt his hand so its all strapped up, luckily its not the one he writes with.Tomorrow the other two boys go back to school and life will become a bit quieter and I will be able to do more of my own housekeeping etc. They have been good lads though, and no trouble to me for the past 6 weeks.

I did turn up one pair of DGS Mikey's school trousers for him last night and only have the other two to turn up today.Although the way he is growing the sewing will be snipped by Christmas I expect. All of their school shirts were washed and inspected for missing buttons yesterday as well plus the new ones had to have the 'starch' washed out of them or the boys moan at the scratchiness of them :)

Good luck to all the new children starting school for the first time this week, its a bit daunting for some and their Mums will miss them but its all part of them growing up. Back in the 1970s when my youngest started she was most put out on the second day that she had to go AGAIN.She thought that it was only one day then she would be back at home with Mum as usual :):):)bless her the eldest couldn't wait to go back and loved school every day She is now pushing 50 and works as a school business manager and runs a special needs school and still loves it :)Youngest is an estate agent now :):):)

Right high time for coffee methinks
Have a good day everyone whatever you are doing

    Morning all,

Funny old day today overcast and bleary but very warm, yesterday was unbearably stuffy and the next few days are meant to be the same, roll on autumn now I say !

Slept much better last night I went up to bed early and was asleep by the tome OH came up so I feel more human today. Off to work for me and dinner will be pizza and salad so a nice quick meal.

Going to start a bit of Christmas shopping online this week I want to get a few bits each week so its not too much in one go !

Did an online shop last night I tried ASDA for a change and it seems quite good value, I wish Adli did home delivery !

    Have good days all xx

    Morning :hello:

Didn't realise the kids went back to school yesterday, til about 3.30pm when I had the front windows open. Scampi heard them all walking past and he let me know by throwing a huge tantrum. Won't make the same mistake today, the windows will be closed at 3pm :D

I'll be in the greenhouse this morning, I have a couple of tomato plants to pull up. Not sure if they just died off or they've got blight or something. The other plants are still going strong. There's a slight gap in the frame of one greenhouse, a cucumber plant has grown through the gap and four cucumbers were growing on the roof :D I couldn't reach them because there's another greenhouse next to it. I had to get a small stepladder and stick my head out of the roof window to reach them. They were bigger than the ones growing inside, lol.

It's drizzly here, and very still. It feels muggy although it's not that warm, I've opened the windows and back door in an attempt to let some fresh air in but it's just making the house feel damp. The shopping's being delivered late morning, I'll clean the fridge before it arrives. The houseplants desparately need some TLC so this afternoon I'll give them all a shower and a feed :D
