New employer has rejected holiday

This may have been mentioned...
Simple if the job would have not been taken if the holidays had been discussed an refused then negotiate and if still not approved
Resign in time or just take them anyway and take the consequence.
Resignation is the last tool in the negotiations0 -
Im with the majority here in that it should have been asked re any holidays in the next six months or so, you shouldn't need to be asked about holidays and its not something I would have expected from a very capable senior member of staff.0

The employee is just stating the fact that they have a paid for holiday - and could be out of pocket by thousands of pounds if they are not able to go
That it didn't come to light earlier is partly both parties fault
I don't think some measure of understanding and sympathy would be too much to expect of a good employer. Part of that would be to explain why it's simply impossible for them to have the time offDon't trust a forum for advice. Get proper paid advice. Any advice given should always be checked0 -

Seems like the OP isn't posting a lot here.
Unless I missed it, how many days holiday is being requested.0 -
The employer was perfectly within their rights to turn down the holiday request, but dif they did so without a clear explanation it was poor staff management.
Similarly, if the employee had mentioned it earlier at the offer stage it would have been better employer management. But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,Had the whole of their cash in his care.

It's not even just the issue of not having mentioned it during the interview but that she didn't even consider how poorly it looked to ask on her FIRST day starting, giving the message that she was more focused on her holiday time than settling to work. She could at least have waited a week to bring it up, getting to know the team, how getting a feel of how her request would impact on the company/team.0

I love how you ask this question and then go on to a tirade about how bad the person is!It's also worth pointing out that the individual in question that personally made the choice to reject the holidayhas evidently made life very difficult for my wife on her first day - no credit for doing a good job on her first day, no asking how it went. Just a number of criticisms including this one which had little substance. So I have my suspicions that she's a power hungry egotist or just sees her as a threat because she is a very capable senior member of staff.
How are those things making life difficult?
- You can work there for 10 years and get no credit from people. That's just how some people are. And why does your wife need validation that they are doing a good job?
- No asking how it went? Well is it necessary? According to you, your wife is "a very capable senior member of staff" and maybe it is just an assumption that she's capable? Or maybe it would come across as patronising?
- What other criticisms?! Sod me but your wife seems to have had an eventful first day!
To judge someone based on ONE DAY OF EMPLOYMENT says volumes about the type of person that you and your wife are, not necessarily the manager.0 -

Idly wondering how the very few posters who feel OP's wife was badly done by would have reacted had their own Christmas holiday been cancelled or refused because the brand new senior member of staff had pulled rank and demanded the same dates off herself. 0
