Virgin Media deal?

Currently on Medium TV
50 MB broadband
Phone which I don't use for £67/month

Called and said that I was thinking of cancelling as it's too expensive.

He offered:

Tivo Box
100MB Broadband with new router
Big fun bundle for £61.50 per month.

I said I would think about it and call back.

Is this good enough?

In a word no. It's crap. Check some of the deals offered on the sky thread for comparable offers.
  • Thanks for the reply. Would you recommend calling to ask them if there is anyway they can drop the price more? The broadband speeds aren't very good with sky are they?

That's the error. Don't say you are thinking of doing it, actually do it!

Call or web chat Sky and ask what deal they can offer you. I guarantee you'll get much better than you will by ordering on their website.

    For example, I was offered:.

Sky Q box with additional sky Q mini box and Multiroom
Sky box sets package (basically everything apart from movies and sport
    Line rental with anytime calls
    Fibre broadband unlimited

all for £39.40 a month for first six months and £49.40 for second six months of a 12 month contract. Installation costs are £69. Others have had even better deals than me.

Compare that to what you were offered by virgin and you'll see that you're being robbed.

See what offer you can get then call virgin and give them your 30 days notice. Only then might they give you a comparable deal to stay, although this is not guaranteed.
  • Depends if you'll use it.

We've found we didn't really need the TV services so scaled back and dropped right down to 50MB fibre.
I pay pretty much what the new customer can get.
  • Well I asked what it would be if I went for the lower package and he said about 4 quid less a month. Maybe he was lying as usually there's quite a big difference in package prices... I am going to take the advise and phone sky today to get a price and then call vm back. Worried though that if I cancel they won't call me back as I really don't want to move.

Don't worry about that, you can cancel the cancellation right up to the day before disconnection.

It's been a week now since I've cancelled. I received one call on my mobile last week but didn't get to it in time. Nothing since.

To be honest, I'd rather not move either just for the hassle factor, but I'm not going to be robbed either. If they phone me back and offer me a good deal to stay I'll stay. Failing that I've resigned myself to moving to Sky.
  • Right, I have just called Sky for a quote and got the following:

    Fibre max broadband
    Box sets package
2TB Sky Q box with mini box for upstairs
    Sky talk anytime

All for £38.31 a month on a 12 month contract.

Do I call VM now and say about this and if they don't offer me a good deal go ahead and cancel?

Yes. And I might call them back because that's far better than I got. Did you have any installation costs with that deal?
  • There was a one off £10 installation charge. The router which she said was £69 was free and there is usually a £50 activation fee which they said they will waive. What did they quote you?
