Roof tiles

  • Hi Heedtheadvi,
Very good advice from all above and you. I am so grateful for this forum. I am very naive about building work and this gave me trust that my hunches were right.

I checked with builder and with building control on if they were OK with the roof. The builder is very reputable. We have seen his work in several of our friends house. 10 year guarantee is worth this builder.

We also spoke with the big boss of this building company. He assured us that the material is the best just not clay. He has assured that the whole roof has been changed and that it is very strong to hold the concrete. He also bought the cost difference to show that this was not done to save money. He said it was just a plain mistake and that he will make sure no compromise happens next.

I am not sure I am convinced. hence, now we are keeping a very keen eye on the project our self. We also paid our architect to be our project manager and even he was not aware of this. I just feel like one big fool. At least I got them on first instance before they made a house I don't like.

WE have finally decided not to take any legal action but get the cash back from them on the change of tiles without our consent. Obviously getting any money back sounds impossible but we have already written this in an email to them. Now I have written request for legal purposes.

Everything is a bit stressful at the moment.

Your architect sounds like an idiot. If he is project managing, he should be project managing and approving and negotiating payments.

Why people pay architects to project manage, I don't know. The last (and I mean very last) architect we worked 'under' was just as bad.
Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.
