0% balance transfer or 0% purchases new card, which is better?

Hi. Long time no post. I have a (Halifax) card with a big unused credit balance available, and I have some big building costs coming up. The Halifax card has the usual horrific APR interest rate, but I've a zero outstanding balance on it at present.
I am wondering if it's better to pay some big building-related bills on this card and then take out a new 0% balance transfer card (and pay the 3% or whatever transfer fee on about £10K), or to find a 0% for new purchases card and put the expenses on to that.
Also, would getting a new 0% card be affected by my having an un used £10K card balance available on the Halifax card? Should I close that one down?
Ideally I'd like to find a 0% deal lasting a couple of years.
thanks all!

0% purchases deals tend to be shorter than 0% BT deals.
the £10k credit you already have available to you will be taken into account when a new company is deciding what they are willing to lend.
Can you pay for the building costs by CC - have you checked? If not then you would need a money transfer card insteadI’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans
