PLEASE HELP: financial association?

Hi,
Would appreciate any help! Just checked my credit report and noticed under "financial association" that I'm still linked to someone on a few accounts that were closed nearly 6 years ago. As these accounts have been closed, are no longer even listed on my credit report (its been that long) and the financial association no longer exists for these accounts, could this still negatively impact my credit when looking for a mortgage/loan etc?
Many thanks for any help

Absolutely yes. Phantom financial associations are nothing short of criminality perpetrated by the CRAs. Quite how they get away with it is beyond me. Well, not quite. Given the total lack of meaningful regulation by the ICO and others it's not surprising that these chumps continue to get away with it. Your case is classic. The CRAs have no evidence of a joint account but they maliciously publish lies to the effect that you have a financial association. Apart from anything else you should complain to the ICO and demand to know how they justify their laissez-faire attitude in this matter.
Also, you'll find it surprisingly difficult to get a disassociation filed. The CRAs demand that you provide a host of personal details about the other victim that you may well not know.
You might also consider raising this matter with your MP.0 -
Many thanks for your reply. I think what has confused me is that experian show the links but Equifax show no financial association in the credit history....how is it possible to have financial associations in one credit report but not in the other?
thank you again for your replies, appreciate your help!;)0 -
thanks gingerbob!
As mentioned in my last reply...the thing that got me even more confused, is that Experian are showing the 6 year old financial association links on closed accounts but equifax doesnt show any associations on any of my accounts? Got me alittle confused?
thanks again for the replies on this thread, really helpful.0 -

I filed a notice of disassociation a number of years ago to get the wife of my credit file and I don't recall it being that difficult. Think I just opened a query on their website (I subscribe to their service at the time) and said that we had no joint accounts etc and were no longer financially linked and they removed the link.0 -

Thanks for your reply Fergie76.
Hope you dont mind me asking, did you have any issue with "financial association" showing on one credit file but no financial association showing on another? I'm only seeing links on Experian but not on Equifax, which seems really strange.
thank you again.0 -
Did Equifax report the joint accounts in question? If not, then there would be no association to report.0

Hi zx81,
Thanks for your reply.
Didnt think of that, thank you! Maybe the original agreement was only credit checked with Experian, so only they have the financial association regiestered? Would be alot easier if there was only one database they all worked from!;)
I'm new to Equifax, having only registered with Experian in the past but I've gone back 6-7years with my addresses on my equifax report so far (as only ever used Experian to check my credit report)...do I need to update addresses even further? Would going back 10-15 years ago on my equifax report, show me "new" linked financial associations? Or would a "financial association link" automatically show up, as my current address and last 3 moves are all registered?
Sorry for all the questions, many thanks again0 -

I've not had to do this myself, but based on posts in this thread it would appear to be difficult. According to many punters affected by this type of CRA abuse you normally have to supply a host of personal details about the other victim - DoB and current address, for example.0 -
Hi UKamber1, Removing a financial connection that is no longer valid from your credit report is is easy to do. If you complete and submit a financial connections questionnaire to confirm this we can make sure the association is taken off your report. The questionnaire can be found here and submitted online.
We do ask for details of the other individual to make sure that we are removing the right person and to ensure any links at their current address are also removed. If you don't have their current details you can still submit the form and we will still process it. Kind regard Neil.“Official Company Representative
