Unfortunately you only have yourself to blame for this situation and it is likely to happen again unless you come down from 'cloud cuckoo land' and work out for yourself what you should actually be paying each month to cover your actual usage. It's very easy to take readings for yourself and work out the real cost of your energy usage. Powergen are trying to recover what you owe them over six months, which does sound reasonable as you have used the energy without checking that your payments are covering your consumption. If they will not allow you to pay over a longer period, you need to find another way of paying off this debt. Then why don't you switch to another cheaper provider for your new property?

well - thank you for your help. Not needed.

I also don't see why I shouldn't be able to pay it back over 12 months - as thats how long it took to build up. If they had given me correct info at the time I would have been paying £100 per month instead of £50.

Another one who does not like the sound of the truth! Your title says that they won't let you pay your bill, but that's not true is it? Pay off what you owe and learn from your mistake!

I'm trying to!! You obviously didn't read my post correctly.

    12 months is NOT unreasonable.

Forget it - I don't want any help if everyone is going to be as sh!tty as you

I think espresso has only said what alot of us feel.

Now I know why I save my money and pay by quaterly bill. None of this hassle.

I take meter readings every week and give correct meter readings every time I get a bill.

Why don't most people never keep onto of the power usage?

You could contact www.energywatch.org.uk explain your problem to them. They will tell you the best way to approach powergen and what the likely outcome will be, or take up the complaint on your behalf.

you know the more I think on this - this is really p!ssing me off!

How dare you assume I live in 'cloud cuckoo' land - and its all my fault. This stupid bill with Powergen is the only debt I have - after years of scrimping and saving to get myself out of the debts I inherited when I met my OH.

The reason I have a piddly little debt with Powergen is because we had a faulty boiler in our previous rented house - which our landlord agreed to sort out and pay any bills occuring - he's now disappeared off to bl**dy lapland or somewhere and I just want to pay the bill off while I'm chasing him for what he owes me.

You really should stop and think before you post uneccessary rude comments about peoples financial situations.

people come here for advice - not to be made to feel worse than they already do for having to scrimp and save for something that isn't their fault

I used to like this site - i'm beginning to have second thoughts

Well I quoted your "Location: cloud cuckoo land" and I personally thought that it was very apt! Why give your location as cloud cuckoo land then?

The fact that you had a faulty boiler, would have been noticed much earlier if you had taken the time to read your meters regularly!

Get as mad as you want but you know that what I'm saying makes sense and I have not posted any rude comments.

again - you're commenting without knowing anything.

I didn't want to get into a debate about my landlord/boiler/court case to get my money back - I just wanted some damn advice.

We knew we had a dodgy boiler within 2 months of moving into our RENTED house. It took 8 months to get it fixed. the landlord promised he would pay for our elec/gas bill to compensate - has now disappeared.

All this is irrelevant to the bl**dy question I asked - it was not needed to give an answer.

and yes you are being rude.
