Hi,
I'm looking for some advise regarding windows and doors that we have had installed.
We ordered our new windows and doors in February of this year with a turnaround of 7 weeks.
We booked with a large well known company, the salesperson mis sold us the products, stating the doors were reinforced with steel which they are not. We had 7 windows and 2 doors fitted. 1 of the doors was too big and had to be replaced, one of the windows they fitted was too big and damaged all the surrounding plaster work as a result (they have since sent a plasterer in and this has been fixed) 6 of the 7 windows needed to be replced as they were damaged. We have now had the company out 4 times, to replace scratched glass and damaged units. The 2 windows that came today to be replaced are both damaged and now we need to wait while they make new ones again.
I am self employed and have cancelled work to be here for the installations. So now the solution is they come at the weekend, which is fine if it gets fixed but, its not.
I'm not really sure what to do, where to go and when we tell them they have had as many chances as is reasonable. We havent signed for anything yet, a Senior Manager is supposed to coming to see us to discuss compensation, does anyone have experience of this and know what we should expect from them. Or, what we should do next?
I would really appreciate some input please!
Thanks

Are they members of any trade association or regulatory body?

As for what you might expect from them, keep your requests reasonable and they'll be more likely to consider them. Self employed people usually struggle to claim lost wages because theres no standard rate like with employed people (of x amount per hour/day/week) and also because the majority of the time, they can reschedule the work/clients to another day (so haven't actually lost the earnings if you see what I mean).

I'd perhaps get quotes from other companies on how much it would cost to rectify the mistakes and send that along with a letter to the main company giving them a reasonable deadline to complete the works to a satisfactory standard or you will be getting another company in to do it for them and then claiming all reasonable costs involved from them.

If you have legal cover on your home insurance, you could also give them a call and ask them to give you legal advice.
