Renting eviction advise

My landlord recently gave us notice to quit. It was a shock as 8 year tenants. But we respectfully left the property with no quibbles within the 2 months notice. His reason for this was to sell the property. However I have just seen that he is re letting the property and has done all the jobs that we had previously been asking for as well as redoing most of house. My question is was it illegal for him to do this, evict under false reasoning. Or he does own it so can do as he pleases. Just looking for my rights as he is still bugging me and would be nice to have some leverage. Many thanks in advance.

Now that you are out you have no redress and it is best to move on.
What do you mean, "he is still bugging me"? There are rules against harassment, which could give you far stronger protection than anything about your former tenancy.0 -
Maybe he changed his mind about selling, and decided to keep letting it out?"You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

Hi thanks for your reply. Well we had many problems with him fixing anything. So things that I reported 2, 3 years ago could even be longer that needed repair he is trying to charge us for. These were not our fault. Things like plug sockets loosening from the wall. And we layed new carpet less than a year ago but he wants money to replace them all. Just greed really.0 -
Has he returned your deposit?0

When your landlord has given you two months notice they were using section 21 of the Housing Act which does not require the landlord to state a reason for requiring possession, so they don't need to 'stick' to any reason they gave you.
The landlord may have acted illegally if they did not give you notice in writing or did not protect your deposit.
I understand you feeling annoyed. It's a lot of effort to have to find somewhere else to live and to move there, but I guess the landlord had his reasons for acting as he did. It would be best to move on and not worry about him.The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.0 -
You should dispute the cost of replacing your new carpet if it was laid with the landlord's permission and you agreed with him that you would leave it in the property. I can't see a deposit protection scheme siding with a landlord on replacing a one year old carpet. The comments I post are my personal opinion. There is no way that a well fixed socket outlet would come loose from a wall, when in normal use.0

Agreed this wouldn't normally happen. Many thanks for your replys.0

You have left the property, if there was anything doubtful about the S21 the time to query it was while you still lived there. If any deposit paid has been returned then that's the end of it. The only person who can be harmed by you continuing to pursue this is you, the LL will simply ignore you from now on if he has any sense.0

Just to be clear this is not me pursuing the landlord but the other way around. I moved out without a fuss, Recived no deposit back and am still being persuid for more money reguarly. Private landlord and no DGS .Would love him to stop.0
