Completed But House a Tip

I've completed on my house and we're looking to move in properly next week.
However, I have just been round and the place is really dirty, more so than I expected, and what was promised.
I guess there is no comeback?
I didn't expect show home standard, but what could be described as "clean" would have been fine!

"Promised" where? In your contract?0 -
If it's not in the contract then unlikely.0

unless your contract described exactly the condition you required the property to be delivered in to you then I suggest you invest in some gloves, soap and a brush as you will need them for the work that faces you0

Your dad didn't try and arrange an electrician to come after exchange, did he?Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

We picked up the keys for ours yesterday and I have spent the day scrubbing the place and am nowhere near finished. The bathroom and kitchen are particularly disgusting and it's not just a week or two of being lax with cleaning before moving it is several years of little to no cleaning.
The shower was black with mould and after leaving it stewing in bleach for several hours I can start to see some white underneath it all. The oven is so bad I'm tempted to get rid but it's a range cooker and I could really do without the expense of a new one right now. One treatment with oven brite today has got off some of the years of cooking grease but it will need at least another two treatments before I'd even consider using it.0 -
After being caught out a few years ago - last time I bought a house I asked the solicitor to put a clause in the contract that ALL furniture and personal effects were removed unless specifically agreed or a portion of the balance would be withheld.
The previous place - I turned up on moving day to find the majority of the previous owners belongings had been left behind - cost me several hundred pounds to clear the house - while the removers had to take my stuff away and store it for a few days while we emptied the place. The previous owners were nowhere to be found and appeared to have emigrated.0 -
Uncleanliness is an inconvenience, but you're going to give the place a clean regardless when you arrive anyway, it'll just take a bit longer. If that's all you've got to worry about when you move in, I'd call it a success. When we moved there was a leaking toilet which had turned the kitchen into a swimming pool, the electrics were dodgy and all of the carpets had to be replaced. We just got on with it and sorted it out.0
