Moto E4 2nd G: 'Insufficient storage' but I've only used 2.21 of 29.24 GB of SD card
Options
Trying to update existing apps and download new apps on my 2nd generation Moto E4, I get a message 'Insufficient storage' saying I don't have enough space and I should consider deleting apps or content to make space.
I already installed an SD card and have about 27 GB still available (2.21 GB used out of 29.24 GB theoretically available). I'm sure I installed and formatted the SD card correctly.
Has anybody else come across this and can recommend how to overcome it?
Thanks.

The Sd card is next to useless for using Apps even with Android 6.
A lot of Apps will only run on Internal memory
The Moto e has only 8gb storage most of which is soon used up.
A few apps will move, but in my experience very few
Here how its done

or get a moto G4 which has 16 Gb internal memory

If you have the Moto E 4g and have the latest software on it ( Marshmallow ) then you can have your SD card as default memory it lets you use the SD Card as internal memory i have one and it works fine if it the older version like just the 3G then it won't work.Nobody is Perfect. Thanks, ballyblack and sdduk. Very useful info and I'll try this afternoon.
For info, my phone is Moto E (2nd Generation) with 4G LTE. I'm pretty sure it's updated to Marshmallow. When I click, I'm told the software is up to date.0 -
I had the same phone 4G Lte on Android 6.
With regard to APPS, as I stated I found only some apps will run on SD storage even after setting up SD card to run as internal.
let me know if you have better luck than me?

I had a problem with my Moto G 2nd Gen, solved it with App manager 111 from the app store.
For some reason I could not save apps to the SD , now working OK.There are more questions than answers :shhh: :silenced:WARNING ! May go silent for unfriendly repliesPlease excuse me Spell it MOST times:A UK Resident :A0 -
Could also be RAM? (random access memory or in laymans terms, short term memory rather than the SD or 8gb you have as long term memory). I used to get this message a lot on the S3, I had loads of space on both my SD card and the internal memory, but the RAM was only something like 1GB so quickly was used up when it ran more than one or two apps in the background. I was advised to clear the cachet, cookies and so on and if that didn't help, to try a full wipe and restore (but be careful what apps you allow back) to take off some of the extra stuff and what-not which I'd possibly acquired without noticing over the years I had the phone, but it was so old and the screen was smashed and I was due a new handset, so never got around to trying this out. Might work for you OP?0

I had no idea that so many apps couldn't be moved across! Nevertheless, I moved those I could, freeing up lots of space, and have now updated those apps that needed updating.
Thanks, all.0 -
Reporting back, I did this yesterday using the App manager 111 mentioned by MoneyMate.

Great news I was amazed what a difference it made for me too, I was so impressed by AM111 that I splashed £2.49 at the app store to up rate this app, works a dream.
