Day date then stay over?!

Who is this 'mate' who's supposed to be happy having a complete stranger staying over in his/her flat when their friend hasn't even met him yet. Not being funny but for all they know you could be some weirdo :rotfl:
I'd get the train back if I were you.0 -
I've met people for lunch and they've still been around the next morning, the most they've seen in that time is my sofa.
I wouldn't read anything into it, it's a kind offer in case you want to stay out late. Either of you are free to end the date at any time. If you're not comfortable with it then thank her for the offer but you've already booked your return.0 -

I may be older but I wouldn't have run a mile at the idea of someone wanted to spend the night with me after a successful date!:rotfl:0 -
Do whatever feels right for you.
Hope you have a good time.0 -
She's covered all bases very sensibly. Good contingency planning is a positive attribute.
Take nothing for granted. Just go and enjoy the date and see where things lead.0 -
I'd tell her I couldn't stay over as I had something planned for the evening.
Better to put a pre arranged end time on first dates to save embarrassment and hurt feelings if it doesn't work for you and she's keen.
If it's great and you want to extend it, you can always say your arrangements are cancelled.
If you agree to it being a possibility, you could spend the date distracted by the 'decision' ahead instead of relaxing.

I think the easiest answer here is to swallow up the extra few pounds and just pay for an open return?
She sounds fun, she sounds like she's got all her eventualities covered and I don't understand why you're freaking out at such a message? I've been on a day date that was meant to last a couple of hours, we were out about ten hours and absolutely hammered by the end of it and ended up together for 18 months!
I think your post also has an air of not being sure about the date at all, as you've said, she's not your normal type. So is it really that you all want us to say she's weird so you can reaffirm your belief she isn't your type?
She really does sound super fun, kissing in the rain and having adventures is so much cooler than a drink in a local!0 -
So she lives nearly two hours away and you seem to be looking for very different things? Not to mention the huge personal safety risks. Please don't even consider staying over at a stranger's house.0

I think this girls big mistake is that she's actually mentioned it to him. I've been on a date before like the one above that was meant to be a lot shorter, but we had a great time, didn't want to leave each other but the option was there if we wanted to go to each others home. We didn't because we wanted to wait...but it's still the same principle
The girl has just been too honest and put some planning into it to make sure, she's probably well aware they live two hours apart, she's probably staying at her friends so made the arrangements that if they get on he doesn't have to go home. I don't think it's as big a deal as he's making out, but as I also said previously, I don't think he's that into the date at all and is looking for excuses either not to attend or reaffirm his belief she isn't his type.0 -
I'd cover all bases by booking an open return rail ticket. You're overthinking it IMO: I had a first date that ended up with him staying over (on the sofa at my parents' house, actually) 35+ years ago, and I'm one of the least free-spirited people you could meet!
I may be naive, but I'd take what she's discussed as logistical planning rather than an expectation that she'll be jumping your bones (though obviously, go prepared if that's something you'd consider:D)0
