I only iron if I've got a wedding to go to!

    And
Op, if you have asked 3 local companies and they are charging £15 p/hr. So set your rate at £12 per hour or part thereof.
Why undercut yourself? If the going rate is 15, charge 15, or more, given that you're doing her a favour and saving her looking for a new person she may not trust.

It's raining out there. I can't do anything in the garden, i'm not going the shops 'cos there's plenty in the freezer to make sure i don't starve. So i'm going to get stuck into trying to get some ironing done. The speed i go it'll take a lot more than one day, but at least i'll have some stuff to wear.
I wrote on my PoF profile, woman wanted must be able to iron. I don't know why but i haven't any applications yet.
Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

  • Wow. That's quick.

Do you prefer cleaning or ironing? If you don't mind which, then charge the same hourly rate.

We pay our cleaner £10 an hour and she also irons if we ask her too. That's London rate. Outside London it is generally a bit more expensive (fewer migrants).

I've never ironed. Tried it, years ago, but it rarely made the slightest difference before -v- after.

    So I stopped :)

If God had meant us to iron clothes .... he'd have not let us have the sabbath for a rest.
  • £20-25 per hour here in Devon or the charge is per item.
Just a single mum, working full time, bit of a nutcase, but mostly sensible, wanting to be Mortgage free by 2035 or less!

Wow! I'm giving up my job and moving to Devon. That's 2-3 times the going rate in London.

'The going rate' anywhere is very subjective and depends entirely on who your circle of friends are.

People who actually know the market will understand that this is not the case and there are hundreds of high quality professionals making a proper living from things like this, even in the big smoke.
  • Starting point: what do you currently charge for your cleaning services and what do others charge for ironing services locally?

You should probably be looking at your current hourly rate as a starting point plus a premium per hour. How much that premium is depends on how good you are and how quick you are.

Don't be afraid to charge a fair value for your service. What does your client do for a living? How much of THEIR time are you saving them by ironing for them and what value does that time have for them? It's not just about ironing...
