By the time these kind of price reductions are made, they usually are out of stock until next year.

OP said they had to rip it to get it out.

    They only said

"The boxes had to be torn up to get the heavy parts out."

AFTER the reply you quoted. At first they said

" I tidied as I went so all the boxes once empty got ripped and folded and placed in pink sacks ready for recycling."

    Note, "ONCE EMPTY got ripped".

So in one of these posts they are not telling the truth. I wonder if it's in the first one when they were unguarded or in the self-serving one later on trying to make out they hadn't done something stupid?

    Price reduction? What price reduction?

    Look down and you'll see
    "Additional Information
    * Please note item 4597368 has previously been on sale at 129.99."

OP paid £200, so I'm certain that won't be the catalogue number he bought (or was mistakenly sent)

All Summer seasonal stock is clearance now and anyone attempting to purchase at this time of year will often be unable to because the item will be already out-of-stock.

Perhaps you should pay more attention. OP told us in post #4:

Regardless it's now a case of "can't" put it back in the boxes as they are too far gone to use. The main box had to be ripped open anyway as the item is too heavy to physically lift out of it. Think lifting a washing machine out of the box that comes in without damaging the box, it's not going to happen.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride
  • All the Op had to do was turn the box upside down in order to remove the contents. The packaging didn't have to be torn at all..

If they could not take the BBQ out piece by piece it makes you wonder how they were going to take it assembled to a store?
  • Not sure why everyone is siding with argos here they made the mistake and it is not apparent often on similar products until you start to build it. Although OP should have noticed before it was finished (you should have shouldn't you) but I wouldn't expect to have to dissemble the bbq and often the packaging gets damaged.

The retailers fault they need to resolve it

It is . They sent me that very BBQ by "mistake" that has been on sale for £129.99 previously, when I paid £190 inc P&P for the better specced Deluxe version with better features that was on offer last week and is now not, it really is that bad...

And a £20 refund is reasonable, some here thought. *scratches head* That would have left me paying £170 two days ago for a BBQ that was previously on sale for £130 and is currently on sale for £150. As I said, there wasn't a penny's worth of goodwill in their refund offer, no incentive at all for me to keep the incorrectly sent item, otherwise I'd have saved all the hassle and accepted a reasonable offer.

Why not just negotiate a better offer then? That has to be better than fighting them over uplifting a fully assembled barbecue

Could it be that, now the Summer is over, you just want a refund regardless ?

Or have you seen a better clearance offer elsewhere?
