  • A couple of weeks ago I posted this thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/5509928

The dashcam I used then was a cheapie from Amazon that I have just replaced with with a Nextbase 312GW from Halfords. The new one has the advantage that I can connect to it (via wifi) with my phone and view the footage, download it etc without having the rigmarole of taking the card out, finding a card adaptor, plugging it into my computer and what not.

I recommend a decent micro SD card something like 32, Class 10
If all you want to do is record an incident when it happens, then a massive card isn't really necessary. I found an 8GB card to be more than enough, as the device is continually over-writing. However, I totally agree about the Class 10. I started with an old Class 4 card and the imagery was very jerky. Class 10 have a much higher data transfer rate and record more smoothly.
If someone is nice to you but rude to the waiter, they are not a nice person.
  • I've seen a few that have a Bluetooth snapshot button ie Xplore c1 or Ddpai - a separate device which you mount some place convenient and when you click it, it locks a length of footage in a different folder.

Sounds handy but do you think it's an unnecessary gimmick?
  • Most have this button on the dashcam itself, why would you need a separate device unless your windscreen is so large that you can't reach the camera?

Do you remove them when parked up?

I'm always worried it will give someone a reason to break in to my car, particularly with the demand for cams at the moment.

Just be aware some dashcams, particularly some if the cheaper Chinese made cameras don't work very well with class 10 cards.

If it can easily be seen then, yes, remove it. There are some smaller cameras, such as the Mobius, that are very stealthy but generally it's a good idea to remove them, after al you wouldn't leave your satnav on display, would you.

I have a Mobius & just don't think about it, I'm sure if I had to remove it every time I wouldn't bother sometimes, probably just when it would've been useful.

The man in the garage obviously didn't notice it when I took the car in for a service.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.
