Admiral Home Insurance Renewal mess up - HELP!

I'm just after a bit of help or experience sharing really please. It's a bit long winded, so I'll try and condense it down.
We've moved house, so when we had an exchange date I called Admiral (existing insurer) to get buildings cover for the new house. I paid £28 for this and was told to call back when we'd moved and they'd transfer contents over to the new house and cancel the buildings cover for the old house. Which I did. I also asked about my renewal that was due on 20 August, and was told it was £158. Did a price comparison and was surprised to see this was very competitive. Waited for my online documents, they arrived but with no cost on. Phoned again and was told £158 again. Great, waited for the renewal money to go out. They took £412! So I phoned and this was refunded, and I was told I would still be covered while they sorted everything out as it looked like an IT glitch. They would call back after the bank hol to sort the correct payment out.
That call came last night, they checked through my details and said the price was £380! Now that's a lot different and is no longer competitive. I asked about the complaints process and was told I'd get a call back last night. That didn't happen and I'm still waiting today. I'm worrying that my house and contents actually aren't insured. I'm not paying that to Admiral when I can go elsewhere for £220 (which is now higher than the initial price comparison I did, I'm assuming due to all the additional quotes). Should they honour that price? Or do I not have a leg to stand on as I don't have it in writing? Although they have it on their call logs.
The whole thing has been a nightmare. And I did like Admiral. I must say that their customer service is great, but I'd be very reluctant to use them again after this.
Thanks for any help!

Have you had the 2x calls listened to where you were quoted £158? I would have thought that constituted a formal quote which they would usually honour for at least 30 days?0
