Price match guarantee and double the difference

Hi, I'm after some advice regarding online price match and double discount. I want to know if I'm not understanding this clearly.
I want to buy a product online and where I originally found it it said " we'll match the price and double the difference ". It was £595 but then I found it on another website for £540. I phoned the original company up and said I've found it cheaper on a different website so I'm phoning to regards to the price match and double difference guarantee you have.
I went through the details etc and gave the name of the other company so he could check it out. All came back good and he agreed. But my maths don't equal his and we're at deadlock!!
Original price £595 other site is £540, so he has to match £540 to start and then give me double the difference in price which is £110. £540 take away £110 is £430 but he's saying its £485. I've told him your only give me double the difference and not matching the price. Am I correct the way I'm thinking?
I've told him your not sticking too what your guranteeing but he says he is.
Any advice and help would be appreciated.

You're really just arguing semantics. I can certainly kinda see how you read it (though that would be extraordinarily generous) and I can see how they mean it too.
They have matched the price and 'doubled' the difference between their price and the other price you found.0 -
What does the website T&C's say about the price match and double discount offer?0

No Consumer Rights are applicable to this, of course.0 -
I'm with the retailer on this one, you've had £110 off the original price, which is double the difference.
That's how I would interpret it anyway. :think:0 -
My advice would be to accept their offer before they change their mind. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0

Afraid I don't agree. It was price match "AND" double the difference, not price match "OR" double the difference. They are only giving you double the difference, which is not what their offer actually says ... I'm sure it's not what they mean though!0

Whether you agree or not, there is nothing in law that is going to force the retailer to sell the goods at the price the OP thinks he should be paying.
Therefore he has two choices. Accept their offer of £485 or refuse it and source it elsewhere - which would be rather stupid given the cheapest price elsewhere seems to be £540.
Even if you are arguing its a misleading practice, its not going to entitle the OP to have it at the cheaper price, the retailer will just change the wording of their price match offer or withdraw it entirely. You keep using that word. Who is the retailer?
My Appliances offers a guarantee like this, but it is clearly termed in a way that the double difference is from the original selling price.
OP no one can give you an informed answer without the full and exact wording of the offer.0 -
I can see mixed reviews here people. It clearly states price match AND double the difference. Don't get me wrong they have beaten the price but I'm still unsure.0
