CCJ - solicitors cease to exist

Options
Hi, I recently checked my credit score and to my shock I found a ccj dating back 4 years for £608. i had no idea what it was for so called the court from which it was issued. Unfortunately the solicitors no longer exists! I'm now unsure as to what I can do, I have the money to pay so it's very frustrating. Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Kinda depends on why your credit score is important, a CCJ of that value from 4 years ago might not have a massive effect. If your not wanting\needing new credit (high amounts especially) I'd be tempted to just let t run till 6 years are up and then disappear

If it's currently causing you problems, then I would in first instance look at adding a notice of correction to your credit file, stating you don't know what the ccj is for and have attempted contact with creditor but can't contact
  • Well i was hoping to buy my first house later next year! I might try and call the court again to see if they've got anymore details

If they no longer exist apply for a set aside
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.
  • Just looked in to the process of having it set aside. None of the reasons really relate to me though, and the £250 fee is a lot on money if it doesn't work
  • would the original company that I had the default with take payment for the CCJ or is it just the solicitors?

  • it was a company, it could maybe of been a mobile phone contract. If I manage to track down who it was would I be able to pay them instead of the solicitors?

mobile phone Co,s are not going to be using a solicitor that was due to go bust , did you owe a solicitor for work done?

if it was a company , the ccj would have been in the name of the company , not the solicitor handling the claim

Just bear in mind your credit score won't be seen by lenders, they can only see the history.
  • when i called the court today they said the debt had been passed to the solicitors (HL legal they are called) and it was them that had taken the CCJ out against me. I've never used a solicitors for anything. The CCJ is 4 years old and the debt is probably even older so o really can't remember what it could be for, all I can think is that it's either and mobile contract or loan.
