I feel I have been mis-sold ?

This is why I would never use a broker. I go directly to an insurance company that we have been using most of the time since the late 1980s.
We have switched to others a couple of times, but always gone back. I visit them and spend an hour with them sorting our car and home insurance. EVERYthing is covered.
Frankly, it's a disgrace that they won't cover your laptop. What kind of stupid cover doesn't cover a laptop? That's one thing you NEED covering, as they are so easily broken!!!
I sincerely hope you get it sorted, and get a replacement, and don't drop it again!Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

Thank you Lily, my thoughts entirely. I would not have normally gone through a Broker for Insurance, it was my Mortgage, because it is a lot of work, and thought I would get someone else to do the donkey work - I will NEVER use again rest assured.0 -

Awwww I'm so sorry... I understand yeah, sometimes people ARE too busy, and do do it quickly because of this! But we should be able to depend on these people and trust them! Like I said, what dumb cover doesn't cover a laptop?! It should have covered everything really.....Proud to have lost over 3 stone (45 pounds,) in the past year! :j Now a size 14!

A lot of policies include accidental damage to TV's as standard. Just because a policy paid for a tv doesn't mean laptops were covered. I would check what you had before to make sure laptops were previously covered.0 -

Hi RS - I did check my policy, and everything as covered, everything electrical, including laptops, this is why I am kicking up a stink - because I am not getting what I had before ;-)0 -
HI, yes I did have it before, as quite a few years ago with Lloyds, we had to claim for a TV
Televisions do not fall under personal possessions cover. They fall under standard cover. Also, televisions are also unusual in that they get accidental damage cover on a standard policy. Whereas laptops wont be covered for accidental damage on a standard policy. This is why I would never use a broker. Why? Broker arranged stuff can be cheaper (or more expensive) but it comes with higher levels of consumer protection.Frankly, it's a disgrace that they won't cover your laptop. What kind of stupid cover doesn't cover a laptop? That's one thing you NEED covering, as they are so easily broken!!!
Most policies won't if the item falls under personal possessions cover and you do not have personal possessions cover. Laptops require personal possessions cover for when the item is not in the home.
Same if you do not have accidental damage cover and your claim is linked to an accident. Standard policies do not cover accidental damage apart from a few electrical items, such as TV.
Initially I thought personal possessions cover was the issue here but it is looking more likely that accidental damage cover is missing and was also possibly missing from the original Lloyds policy.
There is no clear indication of mis-sale here yet. Possibly some misunderstanding.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Whenever you make a major purchase , we need to check for the warranty. Federal law requires that the warranty is available with us before we do the purchase by catalog or internet. Would you try contacting the seller/manufacturere for the warranty service(not sure since it is too late, no harm in trying).0

Hi
No there is no misunderstanding - I definitely had these items covered with Lloyds - this is why I specifically asked the Broker for like for like, PLUS all electrical items (which I DID have with Lloyds) ;-)0 -
The brokers will look into it. They will rely heavily on the paperwork.
If they disagree (which to be honest is likely) then you can go to the ombudsman.
They will probably say they have paperwork that you signed sating you had read and understood the terms of the policy.
Don't be put off - if the policy is indeed inferior then the ombudsman will have to decide how likely it was that you deliberately accepted an inferior policy (Answer: unlikely).
I've had a very high degree of success with the ombudsman over the years and a very low degree of success with companies direct who will generally defend themselves unless caught red handed.
You will need to be quite patient as you'll have to wait for the brokers findings and the ombudsman are quite busy.
The fact that the brokers left shouldn't make any difference apart from the fact that he/she can't comment.0
