Compensation claim denied

Good afternoon all,
I need some help with a claim I made for compensation.
My flight was cancelled after sitting in Amsterdam airport for over 4 hours, eventually the flight was cancelled and we were rebooked on a flight for the next day.
Easyjet are now saying they will not pay because the events were extraordinary. The flight two before ours could not land at Stanstead due to poor weather, so was diverted to Southend. The flight from stanstead to Amsterdam was then cancelled meaning there was no plane to bring us home. Are they able to deny my claim because of circumstances that happened earlier in the day. They originally sent me an email saying compensation would be paid but have since changed their mind. Thank you.

As they say in basketball this is a slam dunk. You were affected by what is known as a knock on. The problem wasn't on your flight it was on a previous one. Download and read (Vaubans guide) it explains all and even gives you a template letter for you to fill in print and send to the Easyjet

Thanks Justice, that is the most useful piece of information I have been given.
I will write all my information down in a proper chronological order and then Easyjet will be getting a lovely letter.
Many thanks0
