Carpet moths and a difference of opinion.

We have just discovered carpet moths in our sitting room carpet. That's the bad news, but the good news is that we are having an extension built on to this room, the carpet was old and we were going to put down a completely new floor in a couple of months time when the building work is finished.
When the building work is completed we will have ceramic tiles in the kitchen and pine floor boards in the hall and downstairs loo. The floorboards desperately need sanding and treating.
The problem is that my husband is adamant that he will only have carpet (which means a polypropylene one now) and won't even consider hard floors in spaces where he wants to sit and relax. He thinks that they just aren't warm and cosy enough. I think we should be more open minded, but I've never lived with hard floors to this extent before.
I'm not bothered about being proved right, but some advice would be much appreciated.

This is entirely subjective.
I like carpets in the living-room and bedrooms; we also have them on the stairs and landing.0 -
Yes, our stairs and the whole of the upstairs will have carpet. I couldn't stand the noise from hard floors in bedrooms.0

Rugs is the short answer, an effective compromise.0

I suggested the rug and still a complete refusal to consider.
We've always been good at compromising, but this is bringing out his stubborn streak x 10.
The hard floor option would be much more expensive and it makes sense to take up the pine flooring at the same time and replace it with the same type as the sitting room. I can understand his reluctance to some extent.0 -
A large rug in the centre of the room was the compromise we went for.0

What are you doing about your moth infestation they will be all over the house by now.0

What's the problem? Chuck out the carpet NOW and put what you like down when you've built the room and made a decision. Having one infestation of carpet moths doesn't mean you can never lead a normal life again!0

No need to be snippy. It's just one thing that I wanted a bit of advice on. It's a 1st world problem, but mse is full of them.
Do you have anything helpful to add?0 -
Perhaps do some research and find out about different flooring and the prices involved. Have a pros and cons list and whittle down the choices. Maybe that would help - trying to talk and find a compromise. HTHSPC7 ~ Member#390 ~ £432.45 declared :j

If you can't persuade your husband then don't worry unduly. Carpet moths are usually easy to eradicate and should not deter you from having carpeted floors.
We have fitted carpets throughout our house and discovered an infestation a few years ago. Fortunately we discovered the infestation before there was any significant damage.
A few hours of thorough vacuuming, especially around the room edges, and then spraying a carpet moth spray got rid of them. Any smell disappeared within hours.
We haven't had another occurrence.
I cannot recall which spray we used but there are plenty available.
Although it is a bit tedious having to move furniture and vacuum everywhere, you do end up with the pleasant feeling of a thoroughly clean carpet everywhere.0
