O/S Daily Wednesday 31 August 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now light but light cloud, hoping the sun will make an appearance, it's warm already.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 up and gone to work too. DS2 still in his pit.
Dinner last night was a last minute thing, as plumber came to fit DS1's rad back on, so that's all sorted, I didn't get to go shopping last night, so raided the freezer and we had breaded chicken portions, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, so I'll call in at the SM on the way home from work, I'll just pick up fresh bits for tonight and tomorrow then shop as normal on Friday. Will pick up something whilst shopping for tonights' dinner.
Work yesterday was a strange day, not manic but I didn't stop all day, it didn't go quiet until 3.15pm, so we'll see how we go today.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all, another dry day so the washing machine is running with a load of bedding. It was very hot yesterday evening and I thought we might have a downpour but that hasn't happened (so far).
I have a report to get on with today, see how I am enjoying my holiday! I'll take a proper break when I have cleared some work but of course, when i do complete something there is always something waiting to be begun. Still, it means I am earning our living.
I don't have to go out today, and the freezer and fridge and cupboards are stocked. All I have to do is to think of something that I might enjoy cooking.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Morning All
It's been raining here but due to get better. Washing all dried yesterday, just a bit of ironing to do sometime.
Called in at my raised bed yesterday to check the plants, all well and a gift from a 'neighbour', a tray of little leeks. We had been discussing what we could plant for the autumn and I had said I couldn't get any. How kind!
Lainey - What a turn up, you do what's best for you. Glad you and your Mum enjoyed your day.
Hope all goes well today TAs.
HH - Hugs to you.
Ouch hilstep, that sounds bad.
Went for a lovely walk last night, it was grey and windy but very warm.
Happy Wednesday! Take care. XX0 -
Good morning, thank you nmic for starting us off.
It is a lovely morning so hopefully in for a lovely day. We spent a good three hours in the garden yesterday, Himself working in the front and me in the back garden. So much trimming of shrubs, what with the sun and rain, everything has grown at a pace again. Everything looks tidy now.
We have to pop out for half an hour today, but I must put the Dyson round before we go. Washing is all up to date, did a big wash yesterday.
Lainey I can't believe it, what a surprise, will it influence your decision?
Hester I am so sorry you have to work longer after all your plans. When I made the decision to retire, it was because Mum was very ill and if she came home from hospital I would look after her. She didn't, but I had made that decision although my boss asked me to change my mind. My sister and I had to get Mum's bungalow ready to sell so I needed the time without any pressure. I am glad you don't have your lodger after all, but I imagine her family are not very happy about him having her death in service monies.
Have a good day all

Csarina - good luck with the bathroom/wet room works X
MrsLW - Now awful those other people sound. Stay here with us and share your news and views xx
TA - hope your DHs hospital appointment went smoothly xx
had to do a small shop last night as we are out of bread....again... Also got milk and fruit and DS2 wants to try making brownies today. The food show has really sparked his interest. If he doesn't make it as an engineer he wants to be a baker lol! DS1 went to enrol on his second year of college. Really pleased the way he is getting on with his work (multiple jobs) and knuckling down. Such a change in him in a short time.
Church today then off to Costco for some bulk buys of meat and teabags etc. I put money into a bulk purchase 'purse' so I can visit every 2/3 months.
Hugs to anyone I've missed. Have a good day all.

Morning everyone.
It's been raining overnight but looks as if it's drying up.
Yesterday was busy enough though today I have nothing I 'have' to do and have nowhere I 'have' to be, first time in about three weeks.
After I got home from Oban I checked on my online students, some had zoomed on really fast as their end of registration looms up and others have, I suspect, just given up. I've suggested to the curriculum leader that we hold a kind of tutorial session once a month - it's meant to be open learning but some may just need the kick up the backside that a meeting will bring.
At last I've got my teaching timetable and student names. I'm only doing two hours a week in semester one and four hours a week in semester two - nothing too onerous. I still want to feel both in work but retired at the same time. :rotfl:
Camelot - leeks are my favourite vegetable, along with cauliflower. I'll be sending growing vibes for yours.
I'm off to make the most of my slack day. Happy Wednesday everyone.0 -
Morning everyone,
Dry, bright and sunny here, we are set for another nice day. Early part of summer wasn't much to write home about but have to say July and August have been great.
Mum has the Macmillan team coming round for the first time today so am leaving off work early as she asked I could be there with her, can always make myself scare if she wants to have a private word at any point.
Had a chat with DOH last night and have decided there is no way I am going back to that company, given that the Directors attitudes and the haphazard way the place is run its not somewhere I can see me being long term. So will let the manager know today as he will need to start recruiting asap.
LW can't say am shocked at some people's attitude towards your beliefs, am a pagan myself and have come across a fair bit of hostility over the years, one person even went so far as to say I practised black magic  righty ho love. I would never question another persons beliefs, we all have a right to our own spiritual or agnostic lives.
Have a good day everyone, take care folks x0 -
Morning :hello:
LameWolf One of my faves xx
I've been given a carrier bag full of cooking apples and have pulled up some beetroot from the garden. I'm picking tomatoes every couple of days and my carrots are probably ready, I'll pull a couple up later and check. I love this time of year, all the hard work in the garden suddenly starts paying off
I've collected lots of bits of paper again, I'll go through them and update the spreadsheets then shred the paper for the chicken shed. My leg won't cooperate today so I'll just be pottering about slowly

Morning all,
Looks to be another bright day here I love this time of the year there is just a slight chill in the mornings and evenings to remind us that autumn is on the way, and the days are glorious.
DD passed her theory test yesterday so its full steam ahead now for the driving test.
WM is on and doing its thing, will have to wait and see if Roger turns up (he didn't yesterday) I don't want to hang the sheets out if he is trying to mow between them :rotfl:
Going to continue with my decluttering today and hopefully take some bits to the charity shop, getting there now, and it feels much better for it.
Not sure about dinner tonight but there are various slices meats left in the fridge so might do cold meat and mash with pickles.
OH was walking Evie over the fields last night when two 'travellers' (with a mangy looking poor lurcher type dog) came up to him in a threatening manner and asked if he wanted to sell Evie, OH gave them a very short answer one of the words being 'off' they scuttled off but a load of them were camped over in the corner of the field the police were there too, its a shame because I wont feel safe walking over there while they are there, and its normally a great place for dog walkers, lots of single women and elderly people with their dogs, if they start feeling / being threatened it will be horrible
Lainey I think you have done the right thing xx
Hilstep lovely to see you posting xx
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Hugs to all that need or want one.
LW I really enjoy reading your updates.
Well the summer holidays are nearly over and the next few days are going to be spent doing all those tasks that i always vow to do at the beginning of the holidays!
Tomorrow I have a tumble drier being delivered. Mine is one of the dangerous ones and I can't leave the room when it is on which is really awkward. The manufacturers offered me a brand new one for £59 delivered and fitted and the old one taken away and as my "mend date" is late february I finally agreed.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Morning, (((((((((( hugs )))))))))) if you need one.
Yesterday's visit went well, they were late but that's nothing unusual. We were both tired after they had gone, had one of Lidls posh quiches for supper with salad, enough left for lunch.
Waiting for the workmen, once they are here we will go into town, I need to go to Morrison and OH wants a hair cut.......0
