Help! What do other parents do in my situation? (I own the car, am the named driver, and 17 year old daughter will drive it maybe once or twice a week).
It really shouldn't be this complicated!
It isn't. Just add her as a named driver to your policy. If you want get protected NCB so if she has a prang, you don't lose your NCB. She will not earn her own NCB but thats how it works; better she takes her own policy when she gets her own car.
Some insurers do claim to allow NCB for a named driver but in effect it is a discount they offer on the first year's premium of the named driver taking out their own policy rather than genuine, transferable NCB. Still better than nothing.0
