Sky TV - No evidence of Contract

Hi,
To cut a long story short, I am moving house and decided that I no longer want Sky in the new home, I don't watch TV enough to warrant the payments. I had a 9 month discount of 25% applied in April, but now I want to cancel, they are saying that as I signed up to this 9 months discount, then I am contracted for 12 months? I did not receive a letter nor did I receive any email to confirm this, until I was on the phone with them discussing, an email conveniently came into my inbox stating I am now bound for 12 months from the 8/4/16.
I have cancelled my Broadband and Line Rental and I am now stuck with paying the TV for £15 a month until January and then £20 a month until April until the contract expires, yet I didn't receive any confirmation of the contract and don't remember it being told to me on the phone.
How can I get out of this contract? Can I give them say, 30 days notice and pay the remaining bill for this month (£15) and then it will cancel, or will I just have to cough up the charges until April?
Thank you

They will/should have advised you that you had entered a new 12 month contract at the time. Ask for confirmation of when you were informed of this. If it was over the phone they should have a recording.0

They say they sent me an email on the day that shows as 'opened' on their system, but I don't delete emails and have emails from Sky dating back to 2013 and haven't got this confirmation.
I read in another thread people mentioning about 31 days notice, but I'm not sure if they were talking about 31 days notice after their contract has finished?0 -
You can give 31 days' notice so the service ends on the last day of your minimum term (ie usually a 12 month agreement).
I've never had them not mention the new minimum term, have always had a follow up email and letter. Details of your dates can be found on your My Sky page.0 -

How could they possibly know whether you have opened their email or not? If the deal was agreed over the phone ask for a copy.0 -

I was wondering about that. You do know if someone has opened a pm on a forum or the likes of Facebook, but with email, you don't even know that it was received, as you can't rely on getting a postmaster message telling you of failed delivery.0 -

There are programs out there that will tell you whether an email has been opened etc - mailgun is one.

They can embed an image and track if image has been accessed etc, but some clients/servers might cache the images causing this not to be reliable.
Either way, it's up to Sky to provide evidence if they're going to attempt to hold him to a contract he supposedly knows nothing about.0 -

Indeed - certainly was not disagreeing with that.
