Not much use in this instance, but this can be where dash cams come in handy. Some have parking modes where the camera is off, but when they detect movement (another car hitting yours) they come on and begin to record.

One of them would have been worthwhile here and may be worth the investment for the sake of about £150-£200 +fitting if you don't fit it yourself. The BlackVue ones seem to be pretty good.
  • Hello,

so there has been a response from the police on this.
Do you think this means I may have hope of the other parties insurance covering my damage? Consider I parked the car around 11:30 AM, and returned to it 16:00 with the damage.

    Here is the response:

We have received a response (yesterday) from the owner/driver of vehicle registration XXXXXXXX. Mr Joe Bloggs.

He admits to parking there at 0851 (proved by timed parking ticket). Returning and driving away at 1600 the same date. He was not aware of any incident/collision and there is no damage to his vehicle. Mr Bloggs is happy for you to contact him tel ###### to discuss or alternativley you may wish to pursue an Insurance claim.

As there are no eye witnesses or CCTV there will be no further Police action.

You've got his registration. Get his insurance details from MID, and claim directly, providing this letter as part of your claim.

Your insurance company can tell you who he is insured with .

About 2 weeks ago i came back to my car to find it had been hit by someone luckily a lovely lady and her son took the car details. My insurance told me who he was insured with so i contacted them , they said they would speak to him. I also made a police report .Although i wasnt expecting a result after a week his insurance contacted me and said he has admitted liability but as my car is over 11 yrs old they would either write it off of make a payment in full and final settlement.
I am still waiting for the promised police letter ! i won't hold my breath !!

But the other party has already stated he didn't hit the op's car and he's also stated to the police that there's no damage to his car? There's no actual evidence that the other driver did any damage is there, so what would you be claiming?

Let's be honest, for all we know the damage to the op's car could have occurred weeks or months before this and unless you go down the route of 'car forensics' to try and get the date and time of the damage (is this even possible?) then really it's a non starter.

But, as the person has provided a telephone number there's no harm in ringing, but I would advise treading very carefully during the conversation and not making accusations which can't be substantiated.
  • I've forwarded the police letter to My insurance. Is rather they dealt with the matter. I can however assure you that my car was not damaged prior to this event, as Vectis had mentioned was a possibility.

Yes, I'm sure we all do that.

I do in some car parks where the spaces are tight.
