Of course, you don't know it was this red Audi. They might have left five minutes after you parked, to be replaced by a different red car.

It's one thing for a policeman within the same force to drop around on their way past, but it's another entirely to bring cross-force paperwork in to something so - let's be honest here - trivial.

If you want to try and get somewhere, then get the Audi's insurance details through MID, and get in contact with them directly. Expect to be told that their policyholder denies any involvement, and anything else is a bonus.

.....As an aside, my insurance company are going to try and claim from the other parties.
Don't hold your breath on this.

As you are not making a claim then your insurer has no reason to pursue the issue, and up to now has nothing to "claim"

As usual, I took a photograph of cars on either side.

Yes, I'm sure we all do that.

I don't understand your point? I always take a quick snap of my car in a car park capturing cats on either side.

!!!!! jokes aside, that's actually not a bad idea. Legally and in insurance terms it may not mean much, but it gives you a genuine reason to get the RK details of a car which may have damaged yours, and a possible avenue for recompense. Better than coming back to a scratched car (or cat) and having to just put up with it.

It would be useful if you want to pursue a civil claim for damages where the burden of proof is on the balance of probabilities. In this case it seems more likely than not that the red car parked next to the damaged car left the damage and red paint. You could even go as far as getting the paint analysed if the red car's owner denied responsibility.

That would probably cost more than the cost of the claim to do.
