I really don't think that it makes any sense to put FATCA behind this particular question.

And as KYC in the UK has been around for longer than FATCA has it makes even less sense.

You're within your rights to refuse to tell them.Same as they are within their rights to close your account for no reason. Your choice.
  • Some bank accounts availability are based on income.
It is also true that some of the data will be used for marketing (which you can turn off) so what's the problem?

Thanks for that (I assume the !!!! is invective of some sort). Anyway, I've included your response in my rendition of the "Observer Book of Banal Forum Posts", which I hope to publish soon. Would you like a copy?

Interesting article in today's Telegraph describing how banks data-rape their customers regarding income data:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/personal-banking/current-accounts/90pc-of-bank-customers-unaware-their-income-details-are-tracked/

This is somewhat related to the OP's question, to which my answer is; think of a (realistic - e.g. range of 5000 to 500,000 pa) random number and give it to them as your income.

Given you're not the OP and this is your first 'contribution' to this thread I rather hope you might hold a mirror up and look at yourself in the context of the above.
The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....

Two things - one; I take it, then, that you agree with pinkdalek, and two, maybe you could identify a post of mine that's as clearly banal, childish and personally insulting as the one in question.

What are banks entitled to know about you?

Enough to know whether they want you as a customer or not.

I was not being childish, just pointing out and saying what the majority of people are probably thinking.
