  • I can confirm that Windows easy transfer does work from XP (32 bit) to windows 7 (64 bit) as I used it when I upgrade to windows 7 in July
  • Thanks SO MUCH for your kind advice people....will update you as soon as new PC set yo. Just received a 64gb usb fatex memory stick as well as a back up. Again-thanks for taking the time & trouble to help.
  • @debtmonkey1A.

One fairly easy way to transfer stuff between PCs is to pick up "my documents" and drag it to your new memory stick (make a copy).

Then shut down old PC remove memory stick and put it in the new PC.

You can also "share" folders between the old and new PCs which can take a bit of getting going.

It sounds like your old PC is very full. Once you empty it of your files performance should improve.

I would also have a good un-installing session (add or remove programs) and get rid of anything you don't need.
  • One further thought.

If you use one of the "big" e-mail providers (Googlemail etc.) most likely the e-mail will just download again (but may take some time).

If you use ISP provided e-mail (freeserve or similar) you may have to move your mail manually.

If you need more help, name your e-mail provider and I'm sure someone will be able to help.
  • Will follow all instructions....! Thanks-what great helpfull people are on this forum! Will update when done...hangover from hell today I'm afraid so will re-post tomorrow. Again-THANK YOU!

There's always the option to take the HDD out of the old machine, open up the new one and install that HDD as a secondary drive internally.

Copying from old to new will be much faster this way than over USB drives, networks, or any other connection between the two machines.

If the old drive is an IDE, you can get adaptors to connect to a SATA motherboard quite cheaply from Maplin, Amazon, etc.
