Stupid question about switching

When I switch my gas/electric, I sign up to the new deal and they inform my old providers and handle the switch.
Is that the same with broadband, or do I need to ring up and cancel before I sign up to a new offer?
Planning switching from VM to the +net 'best buy'.
Thanks for reading.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?
Please consider buying some pet food and giving it to your local food bank collection or animal charity. Animals aren't to blame for the cost of living crisis.

Normally you just goto your new supplier and they sort it out. And your old supplier sends you a letter saying "sorry you are leaving, if this is a mistake please contact us"
However, as you are moving from VM, its a little difficult.
Make sure you are out of your minimum term contract with VM, kick off the new supplier and then 5 days later I would phone up VM and unsure they know you are leaving. Well worth doing.0
