Help- Need Cheap TV Provider

I'm a newly single mum and have been doing without a TV provider since moving into rented accommodation to save money. I got a deal on MSE for Sky Broadband only at £8 a month but now we are bored with no decent TV reception (using an indoor aerial) and watching dvds.

I'm looking for a TV package that can be added onto the cheap broadband deal I have with Sky. Does that mean the TV will have to be through Sky too or is there an alternative? Ideally we'd like just the usual main channels but Sky 1 and Sky Living would also be good.

Any advice would be so helpful.

Ring Sky and ask what they can offer, but don't grab an offer without taking time to think if it's what you want or can afford.


I once made the mistake of downgrading from Family (which was a freebie after moving from O2) to Variety, when actually Original was all I needed ( Variety offered children's tv , music and documentaries, which we very rarely watched).


Also to consider: Will your landlord allow a dish for Sky ?


Another alternative is Now tv, but that does not include recording facilities and can be more expensive than taking Original when offered on a good deal.

A Now TV box with a Entertainment pass should give you the subscription channels you require and side load the Film-on app and you will get most of the Freeview SD channels all over broadband. But as above no recording (easily anyway).

Or get the aerial sorted or get a dish.

What channels can/can't you get? Do you have a satellite dish already? An external aerial or dish would give you Freeview or Freesat with no subscription.

We''re in a flat above a shop which doesn't even have an aerial! I thought I'd try an indoor aerial as my kids mostly watch stuff online anyway. We're on a busy road and it seems to interfere with the reception during the day but at night it's BBC only -we managed to watch Reading festival coverage last night thank goodness.
There is a Sky cable from previous tenants, although the coax looks worn and loose, but I assume there must be a dish.
Would like to be able to record, as long as the price is OK. May call Sky to see what they can offer but my limit all-in is £20 per month including the broadband deal I already have.
Other than that I'll have a look at Now.
Can anyone give me an idea how much basic Now subscription may be, or the cost of an outside aerial?

If the Sky connection is old, with a new subscription they will provide a new dish and up to date cables together with a new box.

There are two Now TV boxes. One with Freeview HD and one without.

Both with a six month subscription to their Entertainment channel.

You cancel online or just add your voucher just before the month is up. Entertainment and Movies are separate passes. So don't neglect to cancel the Movies pass if you don't want to pay £9.99 per month once the month is up.

If the Entertainment Pass covers your needs, it might be cheaper to buy another box for £19.99 and use the voucher from that to extend another six months once the six/seven months are up.
You can give the other box to a relative and they can watch the Entertainment channels using your sign in details.

As an alternative, if you think that you would prefer to utilise their Movie channel, you can purchase their Now TV Freeview HD with a four month movie pass here for £34.99

So with their one month free offer, you can get five months of movie access and of course unlimited Freeview HD (if your aerial is up to the Freeview access. If not, stick to the £19.99 box).
