Vehicle MOT history check

Just wondering if anyone uses the MOT service check on the GOV website, seems a good idea so you can check what advisories are on the latest MOT. As i was looking at a used car from a local dealer, which looked good with a 10 month MOT,but when i checked the MOT service checker it had 10 advisories.
I understand they might not need to be done at the next MOT,but if they did i reckon it would have cost over a £1000 to repair.
I also know i would get a copy of the MOT from the dealer but knowing me i would only look at it after i bought the car!!

advisories are just that.. MOT testers opinion.. may not even come up on the next test or even fail..Sealed pot challenger # 10

I like to use that site on MOT days, it updates instantly when a test has been completed. The place I use is a bit "old school" and although they do a great job with cars they are a bit slow letting me know if the car has passed or not.
I can update the site and see any fails/advisories and do a bit of research/costing before they call.
As mcjordi says it is quite common to have an advisory one year, not fix the problem and never be advised about it again.0 -
I do, when looking at a second hand car I think you can get a feeling of whether it might have been cared for or not, if it's failed on bald tyres I stear well clear.0

I just think that some garages may take advantage of the advisories and say that it has now failed on them even though it might not, even though it is an inividual MOT inspectors personal opinion. Not saying all garages would do this as they have a critera to follow when carrying out an inspection.0

Totally agree. The same issue being reported as advisory year after year along with bald tyres etc gives a good idea how it's been looked afterRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
I don't think that tyres are necessarily an indication of how the car has been cared for.
I have found the MOT site a good resource to check mileage, especially if a speedo has been replaced.0 -

If someone hasn't looked at least before it goes in for MOT to see if the tyres are legal I doubt they've lifted the bonnet either, I agree with mileage though.0 -
My car had the same advisories for 5 years - well not strictly true - some of the lightly corroded brake pipes healed themselves over the years0
