Virgin Mobile Contract Data Reduction
Hi. I'm new here and I have a question about Virgin Mobile.
For some years I and my family have had unlimited data/text/call contracts (pay monthly with no minimum contract period) with Virgin but a few weeks ago they wrote to say they were withdrawing their unlimited service and giving us 1GB! No suggestion to move to another tariff. I think its appalling.
Has anyone else had anything similar from Virgin recently?
Thanks

I've seen other threads on this subject.
Alot of companies have been ending unlimited data over the past years.
How much are you paying ?
Why don't you have a look at the other tariffs VM offer and if there is a better one which suits you, move to it.
or at least have the facts available and ring them up to see if you can do a deal0 -
Depends on what you are currently paying, but Virgin currently have a 'flash sale', whereby they are doubling data amounts.David.0

As Andy pointed out, other networks have already ceased unlimited data, most noticeably Three's One Plan that offered totally unlimited data with unlimited tethering...
You will need to shop around, it looks like all networks have increased prices and/or dropped the amount of data.0 -
I wasn't on an unlimited plan but my letter stated that my 1Gb data plan was about to go up from a discounted £8.80 per month to £15 - no offer of anything else.
I rang Virgin Mobile and switched it over to the £10/month 4Gb data/1000/mins unlimited Texts - which isn;t necessarily a special deal for me as its available to everyone on their SIM only web page until 5th September. (If you sign up after that then its 2Gb for your £10)
I am sure its a marketing push from Virgin Mobile to get people to switch to them - sometimes companies need increased customer numbers to increase their worth if they are about to be sold off!
As a side note i'm actually going to order three more sims and port the rest of the family over from their current T-Mobile SIM only contract. 4gb for £10/month is quite a good deal for my requirements.
Hope this helps.0 -
Hi I too have had a letter saying a discount will be removed from my line as I've had it too long! On phoning have experienced the most awful customer "service" when trying to establish exactly when this applies from and if it affects my other line that I won't stay on principle. The attitude is we are happy to cancel for you. Anyway "3" have 4gb data unlimited calls and texts if that helps anyone £9 for 12 months. Extra £26 back from topcashback too.0

How long have you been VM customers. Pre or post 2012 (when I joined)0

Depending on your monthly budget Three UK have 200 minutes, all-you-can-eat texts and unlimited data (30GB tethering cap) on a 12 month contract at £23/month (and it's free from the RPI increase on SIMO unlike Virgin Mobile).
Part of me feels they've reduced a lot of their data plans because of BT acquiring EE on which Virgin are a MVNO. Will be interesting to see if Liberty Global join forces with someone else to piggyback onto. It's not your credit score that counts, it's your credit history. Any replies are my own personal opinion and not a representation of my employer.0
