Firstly, your point of redress is with Currys, so don't let them fob you off with Hotpoint, who have a terrible reputation anyhow (https://uk.trustpilot.com/review/hotpointservice.co.uk)Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

Secondly, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 you have a right to repair or replacement as it's 2 months old. If they fail to do this then you have a right to refund.
Lastly, if you can get a refund, spend a bit more and get a better brand - you might end up paying less in the long term.
thanks, yeah i have dealt with currys before and they usually do pass you over to the supplier.
may just get a refund which should be able to do as have warranty on it. any recommendations on brands which would be better?0 -

If you can get a refund that would be far the best option - but you might have a job as they only need to offer a refund if it's less than 30 days old. Otherwise they have to offer repair/replacement.
As for a replacement, Miele/Bosch/Siemens etc would be top of my list. And if you can, I'd recommend John Lewis to buy from. For every complex problem there is an answer that is clear, simple and wrong.0 -
For very little more than you pay for Hotpoint etc, you can get a machine from John Lewis, many of which come with a 3 year guarantee.
I was given to understand that their machines are made for them by Electrolux and certainly we have had good service and no trouble with our machine which is now four years old and still going great guns.0
